  12. Here's another one. The "guest" is Jessica Burch. She's "a weather babe" on KPIX TV in San Francisco. What's interesting to me, though, is she's also Lt. Jessica Burch - a Blackhawk helicopter pilot in the Army reserve.
  13. Yawn. I'll take my Toyota hybrid over any EV.

It's not just "nowadays". We bought a 5000 sq. ft. "McMansion" a few miles north of Atlanta back in 1992. We had numerous problems with the house over the next 10 years. It finally got to the point where all the windows (43 of them) had to be replaced, the basement had numerous cracks in the walls, the downstairs floor joists needed reinforcing, and the roof had to be replaced. The bill for all of that? A mere USD $208,000. No way I was going to get into that. Time to move on. We love our home in Florida.
  15. Is this airplane made by Boeing?
  16. Welcome back and welcome to the forum(s). That's a really nice system. You shouldn't have any trouble at all with P3D. On my rig P3D gives about 10% less in framerates than FSX on the same detail settings but the graphics are soooooooo much better. You won't have any framerate issues with P3D as long as you don't try to max all the sliders (that is, try to run maximum detail...nobody can do that successfully IMNSHO). Plus, P3D is currently supported...FSX is a long-abandoned product. I'd go with P3D. Doug
  17. The problem is that it's CPU-limited. A 3.5 Ghz CPU, even with a moderate OC, is not going to give much better performance that that seen no matter what the .cfg settings. The 1060 is more than adequate for the job given the other system specs. Doug
  18. I agree with Kabronicus, you will be far better off using the external drive for a system image. You can't restore just FSX from an external drive if the "C:" drive is lost. That said, if you really want to move FSX to an external drive anyway I've tested it on several external drive configurations and have seen no difference in performance (other than initial load times) on any of them. This includes (all SATA 3) 10000 and 7200 RPM drives, an SSD, and I even tried them in a USB3 docking station. They all worked just fine. Doug
  19. I'd spend the money on a couple of bottles of good single-malt and not worry about it. Doug
  20. Or, you can change the location of the Temp file to another drive http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/change-location-of-temp-files-folder-to-another/19f13330-dde1-404c-aa27-a76c0b450818?auth=1 . Doug
  21. Even better yet, go with a 970. I've had both a 980ti and a 970 in this box and there was no noticeable performance difference. Nada, zero, none..... Doug
  22. Just for what it's worth...I've had both a 980ti and a 970 in this box and there was no noticeable performance difference. Nada, none, zero..... Doug
  23. OK, got it now...thanks. The FSX installer writes two basic Registry entries: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 The FSX installer will also embed the ProductID in the Registry. That's how it knows which version is installed. The only way I know to find that information is to search the Registry using the specific ProductID value (from disc1). You'll need that info also from the DVD's used in the repair. Also, I'd check for folders like C:/windows/installer, C:/program files/Installshield, etc. and delete anything there relating to the FSX install. Luck..... Doug
  24. I don't understand how you can have anything left on the drive after a format. Did you really format the drive? I'm totally lost. BTW, moving to P3D won't help in situations like this. It's structurally so similar that a botched uninstall there will probably give the same result. Doug
