July 2, 200322 yr hi all , i am thinking of buying a projector for my microsoft 2002/2004 flight sim , i have a 21 in monitor but would think that a screen say at 4ft x 3 ft would bring the cockpit for a 737 up to more life size, seeing u only get the left half, is anybody out there using one for 2002 and could tell me what they think about one,say one with 800 / 1200 lumens and how does the keystone correction do for the picture , i am thinking of it projecting above and behind me any thoughts on it would be helpful, thanks and regards.:-)
July 3, 200322 yr I am currently using an Epson projector, 1500 lumens & 1024x768 resolution, projecting the outside view from above & behind me. It has auto keystone, but the picture is not square since the projector is a bit at an angle. I haven't tried to manually change the auto setting, because it really is not bothering me (yet). I use an 18" lcd monitor for the main panel & 15" lcd panel for the radio stack & gps using extra video cards. This gives a neat effect of looking directly ahead to see your instruments and looking above the panel at the outside view. If you haven't tried multiple monitors yet, it's definately the way to go. You can use a cheap PCI card for the panels and your main video card for the 3D outside view. As with most hardware, go for the best brightness & resolution you can afford. You can find some pretty good buys on used projectors on E-Bay. Hope this helps.
July 3, 200322 yr hi gpan, thanks for the help, i will keep looking and see what i can find, its difficult to know what the view will be without seeing it, i don't want to spend out
July 3, 200322 yr Frankly, for a lot less you can have even better effect - get a quality Fresnel lens. This is what I am using. Image is incredibly sharp and you get additional benefit of having to focus your eyes further and getting this depth-f-field effect. And the panel is practically life-size. July 3, 200322 yr hello michal, thanks very much for the info, i have looked on the net and found out about the fresnel lens and it certainly looks interesting, i have found a flight sim site here in the uk that has them 25inchs diagonaly that will fit my 21inch monitor so it might be worth trying out, i will make some enquiries and get back to you thanks again, regards.:-)
July 7, 200322 yr Got this Sharp on E-Bay for about $400..needed a new bulb though after about 50 hours..($350)...so for all in at about $750 I think I have a pretty good bargain...1200 Lumens with auto keystone. The projector is behind me at ceiling height (8 ft) and throwing about 9 1/2 feet for a 70" diagonal picture...only gives you captain view. See pics.

See pics. >>WoW Salbado, that pic look fantastic can you please post a few more, I too am looking into the projector issue, I have been looking for a while and am going to get one soon, I would like a straight ahead view if you don't mind, seing the panel and out-side view, you know the normal view, panel, and as for Dodger, well matey just keep looking, and seeing as we are making an expencive investmant, the first thing to look for is a good company that won't mind showing you a few in action at their premises, thats usualy a good sign of a reputable company, try www.justprojectors.com or it might be .co.ukgood luck,Steve
July 8, 200322 yr hi all, thanks for the help , to michal i hav'nt forgotten you ,i have ordered a fresnel lens and it should be with me 10 to 14 days time, when i have it set up i will let you know ,thanks lads i hav'nt given up the idea of a projector but it seems that unless your prepared to pay
July 10, 200322 yr Hi Steve...Added a few more pics...I think that the rear projection should be displayed right up on the windsheild which I will cut from Plexi glass this winter...Getting a side view (Captain Only) is also a high priority...much to do though. The good news is that my Airbus 320 is flying with 80% sytems installed...MCDU, Overhead, Autopilot, Center Pedestal, with Project Magenta, wxRE, FDS, Ultimate Traffic,as the main software. Regards, Sal
July 10, 200322 yr >hi all, thanks for the help , to michal i hav'nt forgotten>you ,i have ordered a fresnel lens I hope you ordered a correct one. Some cheaper fresnel lenses are really meant for diffusing light, not for imagery. If you see some unwanted rainbow colors - I am afraid you got the wrong one.Good Luck.Michael J. Michael J.
