How to install the ATI Control Panel as a Seperate Install (9800 Pro)?

Featured Replies

After having trouble running the ATI driver installer for my new Radeon 9800 Pro, I took some excellent advice from Avcomware here and managed to get the drivers installed manually.I installed the drivers by referring the installer to the location where they were unpacked (the latest ones from ATI). Using this manual method, and bypassing the setup.exe, the control panel didn't get installed. When I go to the folder containing the control panel files, there's no installer (setup.exe) present (there is a setup.inx file). How do I install the control panel as a seperate install? Thanks for any advice. Bruce.

Hi, Bruce.I am not sure what set of drivers you have, but they come as One or Two file versions. Drivers in Two i.e., "wxp-w2k-radeon-7-91-030625a-010027c-efg.exe" and Ctrl Panel, "control-panel-7-91-030625a-010027c-efg.exe" separate. If you do not have them in this mode, get them from ATI and just try to install the Ctrl Panel, just run the .exe. These names are for 3.6 XP, and they req. DX9 to work / install. Good luck. TV

Thanks (again) TV,I figured it out, now have some amazing graphics in FS2002, I never knew what I was missing. My only issue, if that's a good word for it, is that AI traffic (I run UT) tends to slow the frame rate down more than before- but when one sees the visual effects that I'm now getting, one can't have it all :)I do have a 1.8G P4, so the next u/g might be to something faster. I think I'll wait and see how FS2004 behaves first. Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.Bruce.

You processor has just gotten lazy. It's used to having to wait for the GPU to play catch up. Now, it's gotta work like heck for the first time in its life.Your gonna be spoiled just like me. I can't even watch my TV with Digital cable without pointing out the alaising problems I see on the screen during a movie. It drives the wife nuts. As for AI traffic, as you know, that's handled by the processor. The GPU is also dependent on the processor so whenever you get around to upgrading that, you'll be all set. Maybe FS2k4 will be more efficient with the AI traffic?

Hi, Bruce. Some people would like you to believe that some of these cards are the answer to all things, but I can tell you for a fact, that it is not, it is better but not by the factor that some of the people would lead you to believe.I would wait, and try to give up some AI and or Texture, Shadows, just off the Max. on most slides may give some acceptable results. You may also want to try and disable Paging / Virtual memory, Ctrl Panel>System>Advanced>Performance.> Advanced, you only need it for large utils. PhotoShop etc. This may smooth out some of the I/O / Disk loads. Try 4X and 8X and see if it's satisfactory, if not 16 is hard on GPU.Good luck. TV
