Questions about Asus P4p800deluxe?

Featured Replies

Hello,I upgraded my system this way:Previous: P4 2.4 400mHz Asus P4B 512DDR Xtasy GF4 MX420 64New: P4 2.8 800FSB Asus P4P800dx 1024DDR PC3200 Radeon 9800 pro 128The new MB has an integrated LAN port and chip (3com Gigabit LOM 3C940 with a 1394 card, plus an integrated soundcard (ADI AD1985 6-channel audio CODEC 1xS/PDIF out).1. I cannot get a connection on internet with the integrated LAN. I have a modem cable. I installed the old card and got a connection no problem. Shouldn't the integrated port give me a connection?2. Should I use my old Soundblaster Live Value soundboard or use the integrated one? Then do I disable the integrated one?I am not familiar with integrated stuff, it's the first time I deal with them so any help or hint will be greatly appreciated.I look forward to read any coments from you guys when I come back from a trip... in 5 days!Thank you!Danny

Danny,First off nice setup you've put together. Your lack of a LAN/Internet connection is probably a result of the onboard adapter being disabled in the Bios. On bootup, enter your Bios and search through the tabs till you find your onboard Lan/Ethernet adapter and make sure it is enabled in your Bios. Reboot, and after installing the latest drivers you should be good to go. You may want to power down and power back up your cable modem as sometimes it will not refresh and pick up the MAC address of the new Ethernet adapter. If you still have problems post back.Bobby

Thanks Bobby, it is enabled in my BIOS, but I'll try to reset the modem. What about the soundcard, should I disable the MB card and use the Sound Blaster?Danny

Danny,It's personal choice as far as enabling the onboard sound or not. If your looking to stretch the last little bit of performance out of the machine than go w/ the Soundblaster. Anything onboard steals CPU clock cycles and hurts performance. As far as the Lan problem goes if it's enabled in the Bios it should have been picked up on the installation. If you go into Device Manager does it show up there?. Is there a Red or Yellow exclamation point over it?. I would check to see it shows up in device manager. If it's yellow ! than it's installed but there was a problem w the installation. If it's Red ! than it's disabled. Try also shutting the machine down, resetting the modem and than powering back up with your RJ-45 cable connected and see if that works.Keep me posted.Bobby
