Active Sky 2012 and Flight Environment X
Hi and thank you for AS 2012.I had ASE and Flight Environment X from Flight1 installed. I installed AS 2012 and uninstalled ASE. AS 2012 has so much to offer with graphics that I am thinking of uninstalling FEX. Before I do that I would like to know if you have any rocommendations to be sure I don't do something wrong.Should I re-install default textures from FEX menu before uninstalling? What are the backup textures in AS2012? are they the ones that were "active" when I installed AS2012 which would mean they were the textures I had from FEX and not the original FSX textures?Thank you for your supportDan

My Vote..Quest Kodiak v2.6
Well I am offended by your comment. I have been flying real life for over 26 years, 5 years as a corporate pilot and 21 years with the Air Force. I have 1000 hours teaching on the T-6 Texan II which has significant dihedral which happens to effect it's crosswind qualities, but never experienced a behavior like that.I can understand the positive stability of dihedral but I have never seen it as significant as in the Kodiak in the sim, in which I have to force the ailerons the other way because it wants to stay level, even in a steep turn. The comment above mentions back pressure, that's basic flying lesson 1. He also mentions in a shallow turn the aircrat will want to roll level. It is not worth arguing any further since we will probably never agree but I had to jump in to express my erroneous judgement from a long flying career. Of course I have often seen simmers who know better than RW pilots, one of the reasons I avoid forums.Dan

Afcad for Corporate
I just made a flight with FlyTampa new KTPA scenery, it is outstanding!I wonder why many scenery designers create Afcad files that put corporate jets parked facing hangars like airliners, then they pushback. I noticed that with several sceneries I used lately, including KTPA, PHNL, TNCM. In real life most FBOs I've been to jets are parked parallel to the ramp and never push back. I know, I used to fly Citations all over the USA.At busy places, they tow the planes to and from the FBO entrance but they usually park them along the grass, facing towards the middle of the ramp, not facing out towrds the grass. Is it just lack of familiarity with corporate aviation or most people don't care?Look forward to other opinions on this topic.Dan

My Vote..Quest Kodiak v2.6
Interesting Vic. Last time I used it was when it was upgraded to 2.6. I discussed the issue on their forum but the designers only said they may look at ** later. By the way they have great support and very friendly, none of that "rudeness" I have seen with too many designers... and costumers I agree. My Kodiak is not installed but I may give it another try later, I am now curious why you don't have the same problem I had.Dan

Please Increase Time Delays Between Tellings Off !
I don't think it is a bug, it is just not realistic in my opinion. It happens to my regularily with RC4, but it never happened in real life.Let me explain: In RC4, if I get a hdg and altitude, I barely have time to readback and set the new hdg and ATC is giving me sh##t while setting the new altitude for not being expedicious enough. The default FS ATC is the same.In real life ATC will leave us more time to enter the new numbers, do our checks and initiate a descent. I have even seen pilots do the pre-descent after getting cleared lower before initiating the descent. I flying orders it says that pilots are expected to comply to the new without delay, anything reasonable. If ATC needs the descent now for traffic they will specify cleared XX altitude or FL start descent now. There is separation between planes and ATC gives cleareances with anticipation.Of course in very busy airspace sometimes things happen more quickly, but then I find ATC nicer in real life than in simulation, ie more polite and professional. In 25 years of flying I never got rude comments from ATC but many times from sim ATC just because I am slow to react... just like in the movies!RC4 is the best ATC simulation and I look forward to RC5.Dan

My Vote..Quest Kodiak v2.6
I was desappointed with the Kodiac because of a weird aeredynamic effect on the ailerons. In a turn aileron pressure has to be held to maintain bank, which is wrong. It makes it difficult to hand fly because in real life ailerons are returned to neutral to maintain bank, ie neutral stability.I agree though that it is a nice model, I just which someone couled fix what I consider a bug but a lot of simmers don't mind.Dan

The trim bug in MSFlight Simulator
After reading all the comments here I have to jump in.What I really don't like in FS is that in real flying a plane is trimmed for a speed, therefore if the plane is trimmed straight and level and you bring the power back, the nose will drop to maintain the speed. In reverse, if pwr is increased the nose will go up. In all versions of FS and other sims the aircraft will tend to accelerate or decelerate vice nose going up or down. It is a fondamental flaw in FS.I have been flying for 25 years (air Force and Airlines) and while I was an Air Force instructor this was always a struggle to make student pilots understand that concept. I could continue for pages on the aerodynamics lessons but I think this is enough.Happy flying in the New Year,Dan

Headset for voice
I have a USB headset I use with the PMDG J41 and FS2Crew Voice. With default ATC I can get ATC to play through the headset like the J41 FO using the FS sound menu. I would like to do the same with RC. I searched this forum but only found a suggestion using two computers. Is there a way I can do it with one computer or will RC5 allow it?Thank you.Dan

Strange Column
I found this out of Ibiza, on the way to LEPA between 2000 and 4000'. I disabled every addon scenery I have and it was still there. Any idea anyone?Dan

Flight1 Islander Sounds
Thanks Al I'll give it a try.Dan

Flight1 Islander Sounds
I just purchased the Flight1 Islander because I think it will make the perfect Island hopper in the Caribbeans. It is overall good but there is one think I really don't like:The clicking sounds in the cockpit! They are way over done (too loud) and some items like the KLN90, radios and transponder make NO noise in real life when we turn the switches.I know many simmers have been asking for clicking sounds since FS98 but this is too much.I have been flying for 25 years and I cannot hear a single switch clicking as soon as the engines are running. Furthermore designers imitate sounds from the cockpit with engines off and headset off, but in real life with a headset on we do not hear the switch sounds that much, same for all other small sounds in the cockpit (fans, air conditionning, fans, avionics). What I find ridicoulus is that on the Islander they even put loud clicking sounds to switches that don't make noise in real life, I can't beleive real life pilots let trhat one go!Other than that it's a good aircraft.I would like to know if there is a way to silent those clicks, otherwise I may get reimboursed because I can't get over this lack of realism. I will post on their forum later, right now I'm in a rush.Hollywood has been over doing sound effects in movies for years, now simming will beat Hollywood at it.Dan

PMDG J41 vs. FeelThere ERJ 135/145
I would say the J41. PMDG has much more attention to details than Feelthere IMHO. Panel lightning is a good example. Feelthere still doesn't have an independant logo light switch, therefore you cannot turn the logo lights off during night flights. PMDG stopped doing that after the 737NG... many years ago. Same goes for many external lights. To Feelthere credit, the systems simulation and FMS are comparable to the J41. It's just that attention to detail and the "good enough" attitude that gets me... in my opinion.A lot of happy costumers for both products so it is a matter of preferences.Dan

Yet Another Citation X 2.0 Thread
I read a lot of positive comments about the Citation X v2. I have the FS9 version 2 but was desappointed with the gauges smoothness. It is even worse in the VC. Consequently I haven`t considered buying the FSX version. Please don't tell me it depends on my system, I ran LDS 767, PMDG 747 and MD11 and they all had very smooth gauges, even in the VC.For me having smooth instruments is essential for IFR flying, I will sacrifice other things to get a smooth ADI on approach.Dan

FSDT PHNL released
Nice scenery, my only complain is the taxi lights reflextion on the ground, way over done IMHO.I have been flying as a professional pilot for 24 years and I have never seen such an effect. But in FSDT's defence when a scenery is created with realistic lightning (dimmed) we read a lot of complains on the various forums that the lights are not bright enough.I find many airports are way brighter than in real life and many simmers like a lot of effects that can only be achieved in real life with a camera adjusting settings. I only use JFK during daylight and did not buy Geneva because of those super bright lights, they are huge!Same thing for nav lights on planes. My two cents,Other than that good job guys!Dan

Digital Aviation Cheyenne
Hi,i7 975 overclocked, 6 GB, ATI 4890 1GB.With all due respect it has nothing to do with how fluid an ADI is, for example the Cheyenne in FS9 has a VERY slow ADI (not fluid) with 50+ framerates outside the window, samet hing with the Eaglesoft Citation X in FS9. I remember how it was impossible in FS98 to have smooth gauges even with 100 + FR. Even on my old system the PMDG 744 had fluid instruments with slow FR out the window. The Maddog, PMDG 744 and MD11, LDS 767 give me very fluid instruments in both FS9 and FSX.I appretiate the comments about the turboprop model, I think you are absolutely right about the weakness in FSX and the quality of the J41... wht a great plane by the way.I am considering the A2A Cub, I wish it was a Super Cub. The Cub is so slow!!! I am looking for something new to use in ORBX scenery, the Grenadines and Tongass scenery. Thanks for your comments,Dan

Digital Aviation Cheyenne
Hi guys,I would like to know how fluid are the instruments in the DA Cheyenne X. I had the FS9 version but uninstalled because the fluidity of the instruments was painfully slow. This is the type of plane I like to hand fly on an approach but I couldn't do it because the ADI was so slow.I would also like to know if the engines spool up excessively on engine start like the default planes or if DA modelled a realistic engine start like PMDG, LDS and a few others do it. Most turboprops and jets in FS (including payware) spike up to 90% + RPM on start before settling back down to idle... very unrealistic. Finally I would like to know if the DA Do-27 is a native FSX?I like RealAir planes for the fluidity of their instruments and I have high expectations. I am a professional pilot with 24+ years of experience and in real life flight instruments are very fluid.I have the PMDG MD11 and J41, RealAir Duke and Lotus L39 and they all have fluid instruments so please don't tell me it depends on my system, a painfully slow ADI can happen with very high overall framerates, it's in the gauge itself. Thanks for the feedback,Dan

Here we go again... MD-11X is not showing textures
What I find weird with this issue is that it only happens with the MD11, only in FSX (FS9 is fine) and only with my new i975 computer with Vista64. I did not have this issue with my very old and slow computer with less than half the memory and a very old graphic card.To mske it worse I can't modify my sound properties, I get a "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working" error.Any ideas?Dan

CaptainSim Sale
Well I don't want to start a pissin contest here but it was not clear to me since I initially asked about the C130, I'm sorry to be a little "slow" but I did READ the comments.I have run into a lot of simmers who think they know everything and will argue about how it should work but have never set foot in a real cockpit. I know most don't care about the FD and never use it but I do because in real life we always use it.I'm glad you know what you're talking about, I didn't want to offend you.Dan

J41: Three new (fictional) repaints
Thanks for trying to fix this issue. Just noted that the tail horizontal and vertical stabs also look funny with the lgo lights ON.Cheers and thank you for sharing your great work.Dan
-
CaptainSim Sale
Are your saying the FD for the C130 FSX works like a real FD or does it simply act like an OBS repeater for the vertical bar, because that is the problem with the FS9 version. Try this: hand fly an ILS approach with the FD in app mode then let me know how the bars react. If the horizontal bar behaves like a g/p indicator and the vertical bar like a OBS loc then it is modelled wrong like the FS9 version. In that case make sure you know what you're talking about before making statements. If it works as it should thank you for letting me know I might consider buying it.Cheers,Dan

CaptainSim Sale
Thanks for the info. It`s unfortunate because it looks nice and handflies nicely, but I like to handfly using the FD to fly approaches so I will pass on this one. I hate when designers refuse to admit and correct bugs just because they think it`s not important. CDS is the second one I stopped buying from because of that "good enough" attitude.Dan
