Afcad for Corporate

Featured Replies

I just made a flight with FlyTampa new KTPA scenery, it is outstanding!I wonder why many scenery designers create Afcad files that put corporate jets parked facing hangars like airliners, then they pushback. I noticed that with several sceneries I used lately, including KTPA, PHNL, TNCM. In real life most FBOs I've been to jets are parked parallel to the ramp and never push back. I know, I used to fly Citations all over the USA.At busy places, they tow the planes to and from the FBO entrance but they usually park them along the grass, facing towards the middle of the ramp, not facing out towrds the grass. Is it just lack of familiarity with corporate aviation or most people don't care?Look forward to other opinions on this topic.Dan

It's a limitation of the parking/pushback capability of the sim. Esp. for AI, they need to have a straight run into the the parking spot or they typically don't turn correctly and don't align perfectly with the parking spot which can confuse the AI system. On pushback the default behavior is to push straight back and then turn, though with some clever work they can be made to taxi ahead but this can really be complex to get working right. From what I've seen in most addons, the emphasis is on the "optics" more than really providing ultimate AI ground operation (and besides, the more optics the less headroom for large numbers of AI without getting a slideshow).scott s..

As a GA flyer I hear where you're coming from. Where I work the FBO parks the jets next to the entrance and the little guys too, but they eventually tug the smaller ones back near the grass (or in our case snow). However they do face towards the middle of the ramp so once they start it's simply taxi out...I don't think it can be changed in flight sim... shift+p always takes you backwards and the parking spots always face to the front.

Scott is quite correct as far as default airports (and most add-ons) are concerned. Although it is possible to create "drive through parking" such that AI will simply "taxi out" from their parking spot...It requires that the author create two complete "taxi plumbing" for the ramps, which would have arriving aircraft enter the parking from the rear, then exit from the front of the parking spot, which pretty much eliminates the real world practice of having them lined up with their tails facing the grass... :(
