My guess is a bearing failure. Causes might be: worn beyond service limit lubrication failure bearing manufacture off-spec bearing not properly installed in operator's wheel and tire shop bearing seal failure allowing water/foreign object failure to apply specified pre-load or running load during wheel installation. scott s. .

If you know what a Mustang is, a Falcon is just a Mustang with a basic body, though it also had a pickup version called Ranchero and upscale "Mercury" version called Comet. Falcon had pretty much your standard Ford powertrain with the wimpy "Fordo-matic" 2-speed automatic transmission. The Motorcraft/Holley carbs didn't really change for a dozen years (until the smog era). Ford came out with a new small-block V-8 started at 235 ci then 260 finally 289 (in that era -- later 302 and 351). The 289 with a C-4 transmission is what folks want today, but very few examples are original. IRL the 175 ci 6-banger was the typical engine. I own a 73 TR-6, and for the most part it's worth it to replace the original electrics with relay operating switches as the originals didn't handle the full current well. Used to live in Oxnard. The area is like a saucer, so with heavy rain everything floods. The Santa Clara River is a major waterway, but around Oxnard many homeless live in the waterway (it's pretty much channelized) so they better have gotten out of there. In NYC electrics have been the mode of choice for delivery people, seem to be mostly food delivery. The economics require cheap and fast, which means not the best battery tech. Not really true. Since the end of sugar culture, all that land has gone fallow and is taken over by non-native grasses and shrubs like haole koa. Without irrigation, that gets pretty dry in summer and we had a wet winter that promoted growth. Brush fires are common especially in central Maui like around Puunene. Trade wind weather like we had this week lowers humidity -- that's why people like Hawaii. Trade winds typically are 10-15 kts but higher velocities aren't unusual and you get a funnel effect on the downslope (west) side valley / gulch areas. BTW, if you drive past Hana you come to where Charles Lindbergh lived and his grave site. You can keep driving all the way around back to Kihei but the road is pretty rough. You can also drive around the north end of Maui, but past the resorts the road narrows to about 1-1/2 lanes and it pretty much drops straight off on the ocean side. It's better as a bike ride -- about 70 miles to do the loop, and won't kill you like the Paia -- Haleakala 35 mile 10k climb. I like Makawao / upcountry as very pleasant in summer. scott s. .
