RAID Question

Featured Replies

I recently got a new motherboard Asus P4B800 with the RAID function. I've been reading about it and I think I know how to set it up, ie create a disk, set up RAID in the BIOS and press F6 during Windows installation to use the disk. Once installed and ready to go, can I make partitions like before, will I see any difference in the HD order (C,D,E...)? I'd like to know what I should expect to see in my Windows Explorer. If you have any knowledge of RAID and willing to share it with me I'll be happy to read it, I'm a beginner with RAID.Thanks for the comments and suggestions,Danny

Some questions. Why do you want to do this? Why did you go to the extra expense to buy a RAID capable mobo? Are your hard drives in a scsi array? How many hard drives do you have? (you need to have 3 at least for RAID5, the only really useful RAID. Raid0 is just mirroring, only needs 2 hard drives, and is a lot of trouble to go to for a home user unless you have a pretty sophisticated network going on). Do you know what RAID means? You hint that you are going to use just one hard drive. Can you do that? Perhaps you ought to ignore the RAID capability of your mobo.Anyway, take a look here and see if this is something you want to get involved with: http://www.acnc.com/04_01_00.html. I suspect not.
