ATI 9800pro - screen changes color

Featured Replies

Weird, to say the least. Eversince I started using FS9 I get this occassional screen shading - it gets sort of darker for 30 or so seconds (also bit yellowish) and then it gets back to normal. It does not anly affect full-screen FS9, but also windowed mode and also the desktop. Anyone kind enough to explain this little phenomenon to me?My system specs:ASUS A7X8N deluxeAMD Athlon XP 2700+512MB DDRAMRadeon ATI 9800 pro with Catalyst 6343 drivers.DirectX 9.0aThanks in advance folks,Dom

Dom,Have you tried running anything else on the same machine and does the screen still do the same. How about trying a word processor. The nice white background to the page should show up any problems. To me it sounds like an unfortunate coincidence, but you may have a hardware fault with your monitor. Something like a dry joint.RegardsMark

Hi Mark,It only happens with FS9 and yes, if I have word processor running in the background I see it more clearly. I use 19' flat panel by Planar. Never had any problems with it. And again it only shows up with FS9 running. What is a dry joint?thanksDom

Hi Dom,A dry joint is a tech term for a soldered connection that looks OK, but isn't electrically sound. As a circuit board heats up and expands the connection can break and cause flicker or colour changes on the screen. They can sometimes be very difficult to find.Flat panels don't usually get as hot as CRTs so it probably isn't your problem after all, especially as you say it only happens when FS9 is running. If you're happy you've rules out a hardware malfunction and you have all the latest drivers, I'd try to solve it by turning everything down to minimum and see if you still have it, hopefully not :) and then turn things back up, one at a time.RegardsMark

Someone around here just noted, that in fact it can be the cable problem. I shall try to change my cable - maybe one of the pins gone bad and causes the screen colour to flicker.ThanksDom
