FX 5600 owners, please tell me...

Hello ! I've got a new HP computer with a P IV 2,2ghz, 770 MO DDR and a really bad Intel GPU... So I'm planing to buy a new GPU. So far, the FX5600 seems to be the best choice, but now I just need to be sure...So if you have a Geforce FX5600, can you tell me if you're pleased with this GPU ? Is it worth buying the FX5600 Ultra (it's more expensive...) or is the FX5600 OK ?Is there a better GPU for the same price as the FX5600 (+- 170

Morning Clem...I just went through the same thing as you are experiencing. I upgraded to a P4 3.2 with 1024 RAM, just for FS9. To save MONEY, Euros, or what ever you want to call them, I got an FX5600 256 RAM, and was very disapointed with stutters when the sliders were moved above the 75% range. A friend offered me his FX5900 128 RAM to try. All I did was install the card, and call up the sim. The difference was astonishing, blew my socks of as we say over here. I had to load up on clouds to get the FPS below 24, and max out everything to get the stutters back. I have no idea what makes the 5900 better than the 5600, but it's not RAM. I see no difference between 128 and 256. Do yourself a favor, and get a 5900 series. If you can, go for broke, include 256 RAM. One of the pro's that read these posts should be able to tell us why the 5900 is soo much better. I am using the latest Nvidia drivers.Regards,Bob I..... in sunny FloridaAlias=layabout

Clem: I have just ordered a eVGA FX 5600 Ultra 128MB DDR VIVO from googlegear.com ( #128-A8-N314-AX). After quite a few weeks reading thru the posts at the various sites, I came to my conclusion and ordered it yesterday. The cost is $199.00 USD, with a $20.00 rebate check which must be sent in within 31 days. Oh, and that is with free 2nd day shipping. My final cost is $179.00. There are numerous definitions of "Ultra" out there, so study up before you purchase. This is what might be called the "new" ultra, with a 400MHz core clock and dual 400MHz RAMDACs. With a cpu upgrade scheduled for the not too distant future, my decision was made with this card.I am now running a meager Nvidia GeForce2 MX 32MB, with quite good results, believe it or not. This just the first bottleneck. The second is my cpu, Dell 1.7GHz. To get all that this card offers, that will be a necessary upgrade also. As always, upgrades, upgrades...

I bought a 5600 Ultra manufactured by PNY. Nothing but trouble.PNY did respond and following their directions, I actually got it to work for a night but I just booted up and I got what looks like a stained glass window when XP starts. I even have some funky character things going on in my POST so I think it's something with the card.I keep having to switch back to my Leadtek GeForce2 Ultra (64MB). Another email going back to PNY...BTW, I've done it all to get it to work. Uninstalling drivers, using third party tools to clean house, updated my bios, updated my 4in1 drivers, DX.Good luck.Jim

Since you are on the other side of the Atlantic you might want to check out Roy Chaffins site for his comments on the 5600 and 5900 series Nvidia cards. He found a FX5600 256 meg card that performs as well as a 5900. His site is www.roychaffin.com/rcs-panels.html . Scroll down the page for his comments.

OK all, thanks a lot for your replies.Unfortunately, I really can't afford a FX5900 ;-) and I didn't found the FX5600 Roy Chaffin's talking about in France :'(I've read a lot too about the FX5600, and I found that many people were quite disappointed by this GPU, so if I buy an FX5600, it will be an "ultra".But I'm also considering buying an ATI Radeon instead, coz it seems that you get good performances for a cheaper price than a geforce, but I've also read that some ppl have problems with fs9 and Radeons...I really don't know what to do...If I buy an ATI, is the Radeon 9600 pro better than the geforce fx5600 ?I've found this, what do u think about it ?(link in French but the specs are the same as in English)http://www.busiboutique.com/cgi-bin/frames...&customerType=1once again, thanks for your replies :7
