November 19, 200322 yr Other side being 2004..I got a Sapphire 9800 128MB card today and BOOM, framerate and smoothness are there... I swore I'd never switch from 2002, but I gotta say after pokin around a little more in 2004 its got its advantages... I'm getting about 21fps on the default in Seattle now with Fair weather and all sliders maxed out. Coming back around from the circuit only loses 5 frames on final and there are no stutters (unless I look out a side view then I get a temporary drop)My other card was a 4200Ti with the same settings as the 9800 (AA 4X ,AF 8X) I was getting a dismal 9 frames.. more than doubled now...Now the questions:1) When I switch from fullscreen to windowed view or vice versa there seems to be some weird imaging going on... is this just the card refreshing (3.9 Drivers)2) What are the best AA/AF/Resolution settings to be using?I noticed when I switched out of 1280X1024X32 to 1024X768X32 I gained 2-3 fps... is this normal? Thanks,ChrisASUS P4S533P4 2.4b @ 2.9512 MB Samsung DDRSapphire 9800 128mbWin XP Pro
November 19, 200322 yr Hi Chris,I have a Radeon 9700 Pro, and I don't get the weird imaging with the 3.9 drivers, so I don't know the answer to that one.The best settings are basically what looks best for you - the higher the resolution, the less AA is needed. Even at lower resolutions, I find that 4x AA is perfectly smooth. The frame rate gain you noticed is most likely due to the change in aspect ratio, rather than the lower resolution. If I stick to 4:3 ratio, I notice no difference in frames between 1280x960 and 1600x1200, however, a non 4:3 ratio like 1280x1024 seems to have some impact on my machine, similar to what you've noticed.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
