November 20, 200322 yr HelloI have just bought a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT. I have the following systemWin2k + FS9AMD Athlon 2500Xp (barton)AOpen AK77-333 mobo512MB PC2700and I have just replaced a Connect3D Radeon 9100 with the above card.To say I am less than impressed might be an understatement. I get perhaps a 15% improvement in fps(on a good day, and flashing textures all over the place in the scenery, not much of an upgrade! I have the Catalyst 3.8 drivers installed. To overcome the flashing textures, I thought I would install the Catalyst 3.9 drivers. But, these lock up on installation and taking the advice in the readme, I rebooted, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, and then I rebooted again, by now I suspectewd this strategy was just invented to give me high blood pressure, so I gave this up as a bad job and reinstalled the 3.8 drivers with the flashing and unbelievable tardiness. Does anyone have any ideas, or am I at ATI's mercy and convenience?
November 20, 200322 yr Return the video card... and get a "built by ATI" 9600XT card... and try again. There is a price difference between them for a reason AMD Ryzen 9800X3D/ Asus ROG Strix B650E F Gaming WiFi / Asrock Taichi 9070XT / 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000 / 2x ADATA XPG 8200 Pro NVME / Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 / Seasonic Vertex 1000w PSU / Lian Li LanCool II Mesh Performance / Asus VG34VQL3A / Topping E70 Velvet DAC & L70 Amp /Sennheiser HD660s2 Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke + TCA Sidestick + TFRP Rudders
November 20, 200322 yr Unfortunately, I think that the problem lies at the door of the drivers. ATI have rushed out a hotfix today, which just seems to be a pre-release of the Catalyst 3.10 drivers which were due in december. I shall give them a try and report. Regarding 'Built by ATI' cards, I didn't realise that they made any now. Got any sources for them?
November 22, 200322 yr HelloI think the main problems was that I had been running at 1280 x 1024, I have set this to 1280 x 960. It made a significant difference to the 9600XT. It didn't seem to bother the 9100 very much. I can't find anywhere in Europe that stock original ATI cards. I know they did them a couple of years ago. Sapphire seem pretty good - but I'll have a look for one when I upgrade next time.I would like to overcome the flashing and be able to install the 3.9 - 3.10 drivers, as there is supposed to be a performance improvement. I shall just have to wait and see what ATI have in store.
