December 28, 200322 yr I have recently bourght a new AMD FX51 3200 super computer. The great news is that it is very fast. With all settings set to max at 1280 x 1024 in 32 bit, with FS Traffic (100%), PIC B767-336ER (Wilco), add on Airports like Gary Summons British Airports, my frame rates vary between 55-65 FPS. However I invested in a Radeoen Video Card 9800 XT and although the Frame Rates are excellent, the image qquality is not anything as sharp as the Nvidia cards. The worst probelem is that the shimmering is terrible, even with the 3.9 and 3.10 drivers. The lines on the runways and wires on fences, Pylons, building edges is terrible. I have written to ATI who "suggest" that I am the only one suffering from this shimmering effect. It is really disappointing and is reducing my enjoyment of FS2K2 (I only fly it because PIC B767 is only flyable in 2002).Does anybody know how to improve the image quality, even if I lose performance. Everything is set to high quality settings,. I have reduced AF down from 16-8 then 4, but it makes the problem worse. I have changed and reduced my Mip map detail down to 4 as suggested.Any Help would be greatly appreciated !Best Wishes and Happy New Year!ChrisEGBB
December 29, 200322 yr Hi Karl,Many thanks.AA will only go to 6, and is set to 6. AF is set to 16.Have I got the settings set wrong? thanks.Tried installing Riva Tweak which has helped slightly.Best Wishes,ChrisEGBB
December 29, 200322 yr It's Kurt, not Karl :-lolCould you post a shot of all your settings within FS, that can then be helpful, we can see what to change.
December 30, 200322 yr You mentioned that you have Everything enabled. I would bet that your problem would be alleviated if you were to turn down Mip mapping to maybe 4-5 and reduce the aniostrophic filtering a bit. Those two settings if turned up too high is the primary cause if shimmering in FS2k4.
