January 22, 200422 yr Only item that still is not right with my new build is this warning saying that the Audio clock on the MB is inaccurate by +or- 0.2%Can't seem to find anything about it at the ASUS site or the SoundMax site.Anyone else having this problem with their ASUS mb using the onboard SoundMax ?BTW, I'm pretty happy with the way the on-board sound is working in all areas including FS9. Might not have to buy a new PCI card for it.Even with the above error message, everything SEEMS to be in sync with video/audio with all I have checked... CD,DVD,software Thanks,
January 22, 200422 yr Hello,Sure... it's the onboard sounds way of making sure the sound and picture stay in sync when viewing any type video on the PC...So far, I can see no way of "setting" the clock faster or slower if it's off ,so not sure if ANYTHING can be done about it.There is a "PC checkup" program that comes with the ATI video card that can read it, but only says it's off...So far I've check ATI, ASUS, and SoundMax sites and can't find anything about it. If it's a bad chip, I'd like to know soon enough to get the MB replaced under warranty. Guess I really need to view a DVD to see if I can tell it's off, as it's lots of work now to replace the MB. Not sure how many things it could effect however... maybe IN software ?? Here is all that ATI site has to say on the subject:System Compatibility Check - Clock Stability Error:Clock stability < +/- 0.2% Test Description:Verifies the sound card has a stable clock to ensure audio synchronization.Explanation:This message indicates the sound card may have problems synchronizing audio due to poor clock stability. The clock on the audio card is used to synchronize audio with video during DVD playback and also during Video Capture. If the sound cards clock is unstable then you may experience degraded DVD playback or problems with captured video clips. Suggestions:If you are receiving this message and you are using a sound card with poor Clock Stability, you may experience audio / video synchronization problems while viewing video or in captured video files. If you are using a sound card with good Clock Stability, contact the manufacturer for updated sound drivers or try installing a different sound card to determine whether there is any change.(I THINK they mean if you are using a sound card with BAD stability) Why would you follow the last paragraph if it was OKAY ??Looking for more info if you happen to run across any :-) Might have to get in line for an Email reply from ASUS since it's their MB.Best,
January 22, 200422 yr Hellow.Oh thank you. Well I have seen many DVD with PowerDVD 5 and WinDVD Platinum with SoundMax4 XL, drivers v36.30, without any problem. At this moment I can
January 23, 200422 yr Tom there is a unoffical ASUS forum here www.asusforums.org .I have my onboard sound disabled. I used it for a while but saw a performance hit. I might give it a try later. I think there is a driver update on the ASUS website too.Get in line and be ready for a wait on that e-mail to them. January 23, 200422 yr Thanks for the link Jay... I have sent ASUS Email (their form) and will see what they have to say.Could not find any sound driver updates at ASUS, but did watch a DVD and various other video and can't see any out of sync sound/picture. I'm more worried about recording to DVD with proper timing, but can hold off until I find an answer. Best,
