FS9/FS2002 settings for ATI Radeon 9700&9800

Featured Replies

Hi!Has anyone found really good display settings with ATI Radeon9700&9800 with regard to FS9 & FS2002.I understand this needs to be right in order to get the bestimage quality/performance.I am just about to get a Radeon 9700 or 9800 PRO since thereviews I read seem so favorable. My resolution= 1280x1024x16Grateful for advice and help. Thanks again!Hans HermanssonSweden

Hi Hans,Good luck !As I mentioned in my last email, Ive just swapped my Radeon 9800 XT (256) to an Nvidia Geforce card as I said in my last post. I changed because although the frame rates were very good my eye sight needs high refresh rates and the depth of vision on the Nvidia cards appear to be so much better than the 9800 XT.My settings were all set to max AF 16, AA set to 8. Unfortunately the shimmering is not good, but probably no worse than Nvidia. At least with ATi the drivers are updated regularly the 4.2 drivers are meant to be very good. As I have changed back over to Nvidia I have got a ATi Radeon 9800 XT (256) boxed for sale if you are interested please email me at: [email protected] (UK)Best Wishes and Good Luck,Chris

Hi Hans,As a convert to the Radeon 9800 Pro I hope this advice will reassure you that the 9800 Pro 128Mb card is the best for FS2004. As the owner of a Ti4600 I have been able to compare image quality of both cards and the Radeon is as good as the nVidia and possibly better in certain conditions.Firstly you should buy the Radeon 9800 128Mb card - the 256Mb versions are unnecessary for FS9 as the extra memory does nothing for frame rates. You should always run at 32-bit colour depth not 16-bit as you mention. The best drivers I've found are the Omega Catalyst 4.2 available from www.omegacorner.com. Follow the links on the left of the screen for your chipset (ATI) and then your OS.Once you have the card and drivers installed come back for detailed settings for optimum results.I see you're running a TFT screen. It's important that you don't change from the native resolution of 1280*1024 otherwise the display will be less clear.Cheers,
