MS Sidewinder Precision Pro Joystick and Sidwinder Programing Software Help

Featured Replies

I think I know the answer to this but I would like a confirmation. I pickup up a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick USB the other day from a store that was having a clearance sale. I used to have one (which broke a couple of years ago) a still have all the "profiles" that I made for it. Anyway, I am using Windows XP now and I XP see's the new joystick and I can calibrate, etc. However I cannot load the Sidewinder Software to be able to program the buttons, etc. I have searched the web and I am learing that MS did not update the sidewinder software. The software I have is verison 3.02. I see references to Version 4.0 and have downloaded it, but when I open it, there is no reference to Precision Pro joystick. Does anyone know of a work around or where I could get Sidewinder Programming software compatiable with XP and that I could use with this Precison Pro Joystick, or am I just out of luck. This stick is just a backup for me (my primary is a Saitek USB Gold), but I would just like to make it work if I can. Any help would be appreciated. Brad

Do not install any of the drivers. The drivers have been part of the OS since Win98 --> WinXP. In FS2002/04, you will find a devices.cfg file that contains the default axes/button assignments for your joystick. When FS200x recognizes the joystick, it places the default settings into the FS2002.CFG/FS9.CFG. When you open Settings, Assignments, you can make the changes within FS200X. You can also open FS2002.CFG/FS9.CFG with a text editor and make changes. If you are going to use the different joysticks at different times, you may want to setup a different start *.bat file that loads a particular configuration when using each joystick. If you have an FS2002.CFG/FS9.CFG file already with your primary joystick, then plug in the secondary joystick, the FS2002.CFG/FS9.CFG will contain two joystick sections, which may cause problems.FSUIPC has very good information concerning adjusting the joysticks even if you don't want to use FSUIPC.W. BradDon't install the software. Not only is it not needed but it can also install DirectX5 on your harddrive with no warning. Even a WinXP restore can't fix this. If you already have installed it better run dxdiag and have a look.David
