March 4, 200422 yr Heard that FS4 gets almost double the frame rate between 9500Pro and 9800Pro. I purchased a 9800Pro to replace my 9500Pro but not only was the fr not improved but it was very jerky and kept CTD.Any help on this?Alan
March 4, 200422 yr I don't know if it would be double. A 9500pro can be softmodded to a 9700...a 9800pro is an 'upgraded' 9700pro and so on. With only slight differences, all those cards are essentially the same lest the 9600. I am sure your frame rates would definitely increase, but doubling is asking a lot.Mike
March 4, 200422 yr Hi Alan, you will not be able to double your fps by replacing your 9500Pro with a 9800Pro, as the difference between the cards is minimal. As to the crashes, did you uninstall the driver before installing your 9800? Although all Radeons use the same drivers, there are differences in the setup. Also, make sure FS recognises the new hardware by either editing the FS9.cfg accordingly, or deleting it (FS will build a new one the next time it's started).Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
March 5, 200422 yr Thanks for the replies.I've RMA'd the card because, although I did uninstall the drivers and reinstalled them and edited FS9.CFG I noticed no real difference in FR and it was still jerky and after about 5 minutes still CTD for FS2004.Got this information about comparisons. Shows a huge difference between these two cards. Wonder how they got these results so wrong?http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/200310...n9600xt-24.htmlI think FR is less important to me than the disk accessing and therefore the delay in textures being added. I find it difficult to understand given the spec of my computer that so much disk accessing is required. Would an ATI card with 256Mb improve this?AlanP4 3.2Ghz 800FSBIntel D865GLC mobo1Gb Corsair XMS3200 (DDR400 running in dual channel mode)Radeon 9500Pro 128Mb
March 5, 200422 yr Really strange. The 9800Pro has power enough to run FS9, with graphics options maxed without any problem. With 256 Mb don
March 5, 200422 yr Well my computer checks out favourably testing it with SiSandra and all other games work just fine. Strange that changing the AGP aperture to 4Mb made the 9500Pro fail when attempting to run FS. As the aperture is only meant for graphics memory extension into normal ram I thought this was weird. I've now got the aperture to 128Mb.Can't seem to get any improvment on the disk accessing though.Alan
March 5, 200422 yr I think that any value below 32 MB, disables AGP. But I had a computer some months ago with 3.0 GHZ , Asus P4P800 and an ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128 MB(Powercolor), and when it worked, it did it like a champ. Some weeks later that Powercolor, had faulty memory and with the RMA, I could change it for a 9800XT plus 100
