April 19, 200422 yr Hello All,OK, now that we know that WideFS will NOT work on networked computers because it is NOT a stand alone program and use's a .dll . . . I take it my neighbors only other choice is WideView? Will it work on fs2004?and will THAT run FSNav on a seperate monitor (seperate pc) which has an identicial copy of FS on it?And, where can I get this file or what other file or program will work to do what we are attempting? He's really freaking, cause he had this with Win98 and it worked very well for him on just one puter...(three graphics cards in the puter) but he couldn't get 98 to accept his 1Gig of ram.So, he went to XP pro......and of course, has the monitor problem now.....he tried multipul graphic cards on his new 3.2 OC'd to 3.5 but the performance was miserable and too time consuming to switch all the cards after firing up FSHelp.......I like this guy, but he's driving me nuts for an answer...and I'm sort of curious myself now.Best and thanks in advance,Clay
April 20, 200422 yr Your statement should read, "OK, now that we know that FSNav will NOT work on networked computers..." vice " OK, now that we know that WideFS will NOT work on networked computers...".WideView requires you have the flight simulator running on all computers connected on the flight simulator LAN. Therefore, legally you need to have multiple copies of the flight simulator program. Wideview has been updated to run with FS2004 - wv2004_1.zip from the FLIGHTSIM library. It may also be in the AVSIM library. It is a shareware program that will quit after so many flight/minutes unless a registration is paid. You may also bare the cost of additional copies of the Flight Simulator. The best option is to use the graphics card with two outputs or add a PCI graphics card and a second monitor to the computer. With two outputs, you can undock and drag the panel, etc. to the second monitor.Lastly, since he went to WinXP, did he install the MOBO controller chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce. If not, then that may be part of his problem.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
April 20, 200422 yr Thanks for the reply:I think his problem is the same as mine, I have a two output vid card and use the second monitor for accessories panels, like throttle, radio's, and such and the main screen as the cockpit, but, as he desires, to run FSNav on a third monitor so he doesn't have to continue to switch from main, or panels screen to FSNav. On my computers, ( I also have two, but have yet to network them ), I am running XP Pro on both where he has 98 on one and XP Home on another. The legan issue, I never thought of, but I have FS on both of my computers . . . and I'll have to do some research on that, however it is MY copy, I paid for it, (full retail, I might add) and if I have two computers that belong to me, personally, then it's going to be on them . . . if it doesn't mean the entire letter of the law, then perhaps it will be one of the minor vices of my life. So, knowing what my (our) ulitmate goal is, I guess I have to buy and pay for WideView, and then network these computers together and once I get mine sorted out, I will relay the info to my neighbor and let him make his own decisions on what he will do with his 'single' copy of FS.I do appreciate your time to answer, and I also checked when he switched to XP and yes, all the MB software was loaded, as his reason for switching to XP was the same as mine, wanted more ram in the main computer than 98 would take. In any event, we'll get the networking sorted out and go from there.Again, thanks for your answers.Best to you and yours,Clayton T.Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac" soon to be confused networking student
