New Nvidia card

Featured Replies

Anybody out there know when the new Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra cards are going to hit the street?? I got some mad money saved up for one of those bad boys. I read some reviews on the web and the new cards supposedly offer huge Flight Sim improvements....FlyBoy Phil

Hey,I think the Nvidia is out in Japan already, if the source where i read is right. But its gonna be a couple of weeks minimum if not months before it hits Europe (u didnt say where u live :()But im not sure its really worth it. I mean, it uses 120watts and needs minimum 350w power supply (now...we know how the story of "minimum", why did nvdia test theirs on a 480W??:()secondly, why loose one precious pci slot for the massive cooler? is it really needed? i mean, ATI's new X800 series uses a single molex for power, has a single slot cooling solution so doesnt take up the slot next to the graphics card like the 6800 does and the ATi doesnt need cooling like the 6800 because it doesnt the chip doesnt produce that much heat.Anyways, performance wise they are both amazing cards and i think with both you would see a great performance increase. Its just that i am picky about things :( and the things i mentioned above are for me very important :DC ya,Dario

Dario:I read about the massive power requirements..... Doesn't really bother me though. I have a 480w power supply. Since I only have 1 additional PCI card (Soundblaster Audigy), I'm not too concerned about taking up the additional space. Your info on the new ATI series sounds interesting. I guess I'll wait until both new products hit the market and check out the various enthusiast web sites. I'm sure there will be dozens of comparison tests...Regards,PhilBTW, I live in NY.FlyBoy Phil

Im happy you took the decision to wait:D i think in this case its best. With these two new graphics cards its better to read about and see before just buying them straight as they hit the market. for the Nvidia 6800 thers a great review here http://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040414/index.htmlwhile for the ATi the link ishttp://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040504/index.htmlHave fun readin them;)dario

I checked some of the vendors online and they're taking orders for delivery around June 25th. So, I'd say it's safe to safe that you could buy it off the shelf by July 1st./R,Hawk
