Intel P4/3.08 (533-fsb) Cooling Solutions?

Featured Replies

I am in the market for a new fan/heatsink for my P4/3.08 (533fsb) processor. I have an OEM Intel cooler on it now, and when flightsimming or Battlefield 1942'ing, the thing seems louder than a Cessna doing a run-up in your front yard. Does anyone have recommendations on a Intel compatable cooling solution which will lessen the noise factor coming from my OEM fan?!Your help, as always, is greatly appreciated!-Greg

Coolermaster make a really cool looking fan. Its called Jet4. Excellent cooler to boot. And since it looks like a Jet Engine, its great for us Aviation fans :-hahhttp://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=ICB-V83&other_title=ICB-V83JET%204

i'd get the Thermalright soar mentioned. thinking about getting one myself (except an xp-90 for my AMD). they are always getting positive reviews and the heatsinks look awesome. if you're not overclocking, you can probably just put a quiet fan on top of the heatsink and have it be close to silent.

Coupled with a 92mm fan that>puts out about 35db of noise it does great.>>There are less expensive places to buy these two other than>Newegg.>>Good luck,>>GregYep, SP-97 working great here, using just a 30CFM 92mm quite fan it is keeping this stock 2.1ghz CPU running cool under load at 2.6ghz.SP-97 simply work well, and it helps to have good case cooling as well...I run 3 intake and 3 exaust fans and try to always keep a cold beer nearby... Hey, it elps!!! hick..up. :)

"...I run 3 intake and 3 exaust fans and try to always keep a cold beer nearby... Hey, it elps!!! hick..up."Jeez, I'm such a dummy! Just last week I added a quiet 120mm fan to the left side panel to blow fresh air into the CPU/Memory area on the MB. I never thought of the cold beer idea. It is sooooo much better than that ####-ant 120mm fan.I'm off now to try the cold beer cooling solution (now I'll be able to say my system is liquid cooled).:-beerchug Greg

Jeez, Steve, thet looks like quite a rig!! I see everything... but the computer? How far away is it? How much coolant is in the system?I suppose W/C is my next project. Seems rather expensive, but temp stability is very attractive.Cheers,Greg

Hi again Greg, nice for me to be able to help YOU for a change, lolwell, the Hydor L30 was about

lolsounds like a pain in the @$$

looks like a fun project tho. but putting water near the mobo and cpu seems kind of weird to me. what happens if you need to detach a hose or something, doesnt water get all over? do you ever have to add or change the water? also, how much are you overclocking?

Hi aigean,I'm not overclocking, I'm not into it really, and as my system specs show, this rig is good enough as it is for a while.as for the hoses etc, I don't have any intentions of disconnecting anything unless something goes wrong, but even then I just drain it by the drain plug at the base of the reservoir in the picture.I just wanted peace and quiet, instead of all those fans going all the time, that was the main reason, and as for the water by the mobo and CPU, these units are sealed units, you can take them apart if you like for cleaning etc, but that won't be for a very very long time yet, but even then, it's just a drain and clean process as I said before.it does sound like theres a lot to it I agree, but there really isn't,it's simplicity in itself really, it just looks complexand as I stated earlier, my system is now COOL and Cooled evenly, no more hot and cold temps, all uniform now at about 32 / 36C as opposed to the previous 51/64C.Steve.

do you use case fans (sorry if you already answered this)?

nope, none at all now,no need whatsoever, talk about quietness heaven...Steve.
