Looking for mid-range video card

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm looking for a <$150 video card to improve my frame rates.I'm currently on a 3.0ghz P4 with 1gb of ram.My video card now is a geforce 4 ti4400.I was looking at the GeForce FX5700LE 256mb which is running about $100 - but if I'm not going to see a noticable improvement, I'd like to keep looking around.Any suggestions would really help me with my background work. Thanks,BobKMEM

If you can hold off, the Geforce 6600 will be comming out soon and it retails for $150. The AGP version will be comming out in October.

the 5700 barely out performs the ti4200. you would only be gaining DX 9 support. Not worth the money in my opinion.

BEWARE:An Nvidia5700LE has the clock speeds of a 5200. A Radeon 9600 non-pro is much better.Around the same level as a straight 5700.AMD64 3200 - ASUS K8V SE - ASUS RADEON 9800XT - SB AUDIGY 2 - 1.5GB CORSAIR XMS - RUNNING XP PRO ON A 320GB BUNCH OF SATA DRIVES

Thanks guys. After many reviews, I think it may be worth waiting a couple of months, doubling my savings and going top-of-line - as much as it hurts throwing $300+ at a video card. I think the trick will be buying something that won't date itself in 6 months. We know we'll all be upgrading again when FS2006 comes out. :)

Last night I just threw $174.00 at a new FX5900XT, I just hope that it was worth the effort. I found myself getting rather tired of my TI4600 and wanting something new but since I am going to be building a new system for myself in a couple of months I did not want to spend too much money since it will only be used for a short time. From what I could tell it seems that this card will give me that little bit of an improvement that I am looking for without breaking the bank. If anyone has any comments about this card please feel free to comment away. I know, I know, I should have bought an ATI! That is for all of you ATI fans out there, I knew what you were going to say! :-lolTake care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
