Athlon 64 2800 question

Featured Replies

Am getting a good deal on the Athlon 64 2800 + MSI Neo K8T800 MB + 768MB PC400 RAM. Any opinions on this product? Would it be better than a P4 3.0 at running FS2004?ThanksShez

Hi Shez,"Would it be better than a P4 3.0 at running FS2004?"Could be. The 64 bit Athlons are very good for gaming. That one is rated equivalent to a 2.8 P4, but it would easily overclock to 3000 speed. The motherboard is good. My only concern would be the RAM. You should learn as much as possible about it before buying. Most makers sell something along the lines of "Value Select" or some such. This type of "value" RAM can cause gamers to age prematurely!! Go with caution here.Hope this helps,GregEdit: Should have added... the CPU is a Socket 754 and is coming to an end soon. AMD is moving on to the 939 design. Evenso, if the price is right on the combo it might just be a great deal for you.

Thanks Greg. The RAM is Kingston and is 768MB just because that was the way I had built it up. The 939 is more expensive than the standard but supposedly even faster. I guess I will make the 939 the next upgrade. With my XP1900 with 60% AI I get good performance so I guess until FS2006 blasts in the A64 2800 is more than enough!Shez
