Video Card Upgrade - Worth it ???

Featured Replies

Hi all,I am running FS2004 on a P1.8 with 1.2gb Ram, 80gb Drive and 160gb External so the C: is 45% free. The Video Card I currently have is a Geforce 3 Ti200 and I am getting between 8 and 15 fps when high quality clouds are on and between 14 and 25 with simple clouds on. I am considering buying an Nvidia 6800LE 128mb as I am hoping to get the 20fps and above AND use the high quality clouds. Other changes (Autogen, Terrain etc do not have a major impact in my view) AI yes but not as bad as the clouds. I have installed Chris Willis FSsky2004 but the same happens.(Gainward GeForce 6800LE 128MB DDR AGP, Tv-Out, DVI, RetailKomplett #: 303912 / 471846200-6220 RETAIAvailability: 50-99 stocked

I would say that's a pretty good video card upgrade, though I don't play flight sim I can't give you how many FPS you'll get but it is a huge improvement.

Sorry,I cannot see you getting the frame rate jump that you are looking for by switching to that card, any card in fact. You are seriously constrained by your CPU and FS is primarily CPU intensive. You will get a small FPS increase with the new card but the biggset difference you will see will be in IQ (AA & AF)Regards,Glenn
