December 4, 200421 yr I have used a Dell XPS 8200 for about two years with a 5900 Ultra 256Mb video card with very satisfying results. A month ago, my Dell would not power up and after much frustration and tech support visits Dell finally gave me a system exchange under the warranty. My new system is more powerful: P4 Prescott 3.0Ghz DT, 530, 8400, XP Pro wSP2, very small stock PSI-X video card, 160 GB HD, 1Meg RAM.Two issues: The hard drive set up is incompatible with my old hard drive, so all of the software/licenses etc on my old machine are not easily transferrable into the new machine. The video card is totally inadequate and it uses a new PCI-Express type single slot, making my very expensive at the time GeForce 5900Ultra 256MB AGP video card not usable. All this because the power won't boot up on my original machine.I need to find a good PCI-X compatible graphics card and a way to get the old HD data on the new machine.Any suggestions?thankschris conklinHonolulu

December 5, 200421 yr I assume you have to return the old computer with hardrive to Dell!? Does the new computer only have Serial-ATA (SATA) connections to the hardrive and not the standard paralled-ATA connections? If so, then your only avenue might be to install the old hardrive in another computer as a slave, LAN the new computer to the other computer than copy the data to the new computer's hardrive. However, this will not copy software licenses to the new computer, only copy the programs to some location on the new computer. It will not register the programs into the Windows registry or make them available for removal from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs listing. The real main problem is your are using two different diskdrive so you are not cloning to an identical drive. Even if you could clone the drive, your new computer uses different CPU, Motherboard chips, busses, etc. Windows probably wouldn't even start properly if you could attach the old hardrive to the new computer.W. December 10, 200421 yr Sorry, I have to clarify my mistake...the Giga-byte GeForce 6800GT will not work on your system...it is an AGP not a PCI-E (Express) as required by your system.Higher End Video Card, the high end cards cost over $500.00Giga-byte nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-125-143&depa=1
