The best possible combination for a RAID 0-array

Featured Replies

Hi there, I was just wondering which combination was better in order to get the best performance in flightsimming when using a RAID 0-array.I know that there are a few things that are important, correct me if I

Your considerations are important for ANY hard drive system, including RAID-0's. I'm no true expert, but here are my thoughts...It should be noted that RAID-0 will not help you with FPS performance in MSFS or any game. It may shorten load times launching the game (or moving between levels in other types of games), but the hard drive is not all that important in the flight aspects of MSFS.That said, RAID-0 will obviously create one huge drive out of your two - if you go with a smaller set of base drives (74), you'll end up with (148 GB) of storage in the end. Throwing two (250's) into a RAID config, you're up to a whopping 1/2 terabyte.Keep in mind that with RAID-0, if one drive goes, you run the high risk that all your data will be lost. If you use the smaller drive configuration, you can easily buy a second (or third) hard drive (internal or external) to act as a repository for backup information. I copy My Documents, My Pics, and other critically important data from my RAID array to an external drive daily. This insures that I won't lose my most important stuff should problems arise. A HUGE RAID array could pose problems if you want to back the ENTIRE volume up. The smaller array can easily fit on a modern external drive. Like you, I have a separate storage drive for my MP3's and other personal libraries, which I've burned to DVD-R's for backup purposes. Just look at what you WANT the RAID array for, consider the $$ costs and how it will impact MSFS (minimally), and go from there. Sounds to me like you'd be better suited with the smaller drives. Good luck!

I would skip it really. RAID 0 is risky business indead and it
