HELP! My PC crashes after some time of "inactivity"

Featured Replies

I have a problem here: whenever I leave my computer running without "doing" something (e.g., keyboard or mouse input), it freezes after some time (maybe 1 hour, maybe 3 hours, something "long" like that). THis is a problem when leaving the computer to run a long range flight in real time, because I don't want to sit in front of the screen for hours, but come back only for the final phase of the flight. By then, the PC has "freezed".What could it be?- screensaver doing funny things?- the fact that FS 2004 is "in the background", i.e. when I leave the computer the screen has the desktop showing?- interferences from the web?- any procedures kicking off that stall the system? What can I check? I've run a virus check, so that isn't the problemThanksCHris

I'd suspect that you either:- have a virus (running a check might not be a solution - virii sometimes disable A/V so A/V can't find it - check for weird process names, that's one way of checking for virii)- computer's getting too hot- you have a process that's crashing the pc - you should go through the process list in the task manager, and see what you are running and what things might get started - and easily google each one of them, to see reports on the web about it - (maybe couple that search with the RUN key in the regedit, see what things get started, and of course disable service called "schleduled tasks")Why do you have a desktop showing screen? just leave FS on...Ah yeah, and disable screensaver. It's useless and rather turn off your monitor to save energy.
