  1. The entire suite of Navigraph products is fantastic. The only thing missing in SimBrief is an aircraft profile of the Concorde and the possibility to plan "Concorde-style" routes. A much more complicated untertaking I suppose, but that would really be great for flying the FSL Concorde. Right now I plan the route more or less manually, then create the route using another profile (an A350 for instance), and then let the FSL Concorde board computer do the rest of the job. It works, but it's not great.
  2. I am currently doing a flight from Alert (CYLT) on the Northern end of Ellismere Island in Canada, the world's Northernmost airport, to Lonyearbyen in Spitsbergen. The route goes over the Northern tip of Greenland, the most Northern longitude I reach is 83 degrees North, and only towards the end do I descend South of 80 degrees North. I have winter season set (February), and indeed I have a Polar night with only a bit of sun peaking over the horizon very far away. In the real world most - and usually - all of that part of the world is covered by ice. However, in FSX, the Arctic Ocean shows as water. Very unrealistic. Is there anything that can be done about that? Thanks
  3. THe title says it all. The Aeromexico 77L repaint has a Star Alliance sticker on the fuselage. It should be a Skyteam sticker. Maybe that could be corrected and updated. Thansk for an otherwise absolutely wonderful plane. Chris

  5. I need some guidance and orientation on how to procede here. In my newly set up FSX (just moved from FS9) I want to have the following: -. improved ground textures - correct coast lines, lakes, etc - fantastic mesh especially for mountain regions (Alps, Rockies, Andes, Himalaya) - adding "landmarks" like harbours, famous buildings, etc. I have looked through several webpages by FTX, Pilots!, Flight 1. And I am confused about which one to buy. Is the following correct: - FTX Global for ground textures? - FTX Vector for coast lines, etc? - FS Global Ultimate for mesh? - Flight 1 Ultimate Terrain for landmarks? But then what do the following products add: - FTX Open LC Europe? - FTX Terrain Regions? Thank you for any help in chosing the right products and indicating if they are compatible. Thanks!
  6. In FS9 I had a neat setup that showed for every AI plane the following: 1. ui_manufacturer, ui_aircraft type ("Boeing 747-400") 2. Callsign, flightnumber ("LUFTHANSA 400") 3. Departure, destination ("EDDF-KJFK") Now that I have FSX I get things like the aircraft type ("Aardvark"). How can I change that and show what I had in FS9? Thanks Chris
  7. So I tried what was suggested by posters - thanks everybody for all the hints! However so far it's been somewhat frustrating. The Justflight/PSS product does not work for me in FSX, maybe that is because I am running Windows 8.1. The Majestic 8-300 is sold only in the TRAINING version, but still I bought it for USD 159 (!!). A nice plane, but I can't find any repaints for it. Also, I wouldn't know how to merge that panel with the Dreamwings Dash 8-100 and -200. There seems to have been some freeware panel by the same chap that developed the Majestic payware (Fanda?), but I haven't really figured out where to find the latest version and if that will work with the Dreamwings -100 and -200. Any thoughts or hints?
  8. Precisely that is the problem that I have. ATC just disappears in the middle of the flight. Never the ground, tower, or departure controller, always the centre. And for me, it happens on *every* flight. Any way to address that issue?
  9. I've had this on all my recent flights: ATC works normally for clearance, taxiing, during departure, handover to the centre, but then some moment during climb or cruise ATC "disappears". The ATC window only gives the choice of "Airports in proximity", but my own flight's following by ATC has been lost. I tried re-loading the flightplan into FSX but that still won't make a difference. Only once on the ground do I get the possibility to select ground control frequency, and all is back to normal again. What to do?
  10. Ah, I didn't know that! That's a good surprise because I already own the PSS product. So I'll try it out in FSX tonight. Thanks for the help! Ah, I didn't know that! That's a good surprise because I already own the PSS product. So I'll try it out in FSX tonight. Thanks for the help!
  11. Dreamwings seems indeed the way to go. I am looking for a -100 or -200 version as well (I think the fuselage is the same, otherwise not sure what the difference is). There are plenty of repaints, all you need to do is look in the AVSIM library in the FS9 category. The Dreamwings plane is an FS9 plane. What bugs me though is: which panel to use? I haven't tried it out, but I would assume that the one from PSS does not work in FSX. Which panel are you using? Chris
  12. I am looking to fly the Dash 8-300 and especially the Dash 8-200 to a couple of fields where the -400 is too large. What is the best Dash 8-300 and -200 for FSX? In FS9 I used a merge of the PSS panel with the Dreamwings exterior model. What's the best solution for FSX? No payware that I am aware of? Dreamwings will probably work in FSX, but what panel to use? Thanks! Chris
  13. Just made a big leap of faith and moved from FS9 to FSX. I am not a happy camper yet as I have OOM problems, whcih I am educating myself on in the various forums. One thing I came across was "DX10". I have absolutely no clue about how computers work and what is under the hood of FSX, I just understand that there are settings menus and that moving the sliders to the left will improve performance. So: what is DX10? I have read that it may solve OOM problems, but also that it causes other problems. If someone could give me a layman's answer to what DX10 is and what the pros and cons are of running it. My setup: FSX with SP2 Lots of add-on airports (FlyTampa, Aerosoft, FSDT, etc= Add-on planes (PMDG, Level D, etc) ORBX FTX Global Not yet installed, but soon: FSGlobal mesh Not yet ported over from FS9: plenty of AI, more than 1,000 bgls Windows 8.1 4th Generation i7 32GB RAM GEFprce GTX 880M 4GB (And by the way, if someone can point me to the ultimate FSX tweak and seetings guide, I'd appreciate. Like that I don't have to puzzle together everything from different threads and forums) Thanks Chris
  14. After many years of hesitation I now moved from FS9 to FSX. One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to avoid the "swivel" when changing the angle of view in the outside view. FOr instance I am looking at my plane from the side and then move the point of view behind the plane. Instead of just fixing the point of view behind the plane the view first "overshoots" to the other side and then centers back on the angle of view that I want to have. Quite annoying, it is as if the outside camera was drunk or on a floating carpet. In FS9 one could tick a box to "fix" outside views. How can I do that in FSX? Second, for some reason the keyboard shortcuts for "move view right", "left", etc. don't seem to work. To fix the problem I have assigned other keystrokes, but to no avail. Any known fix for that? Thanks Chris

Has anyone attempted or even succeeded to take the POSKY A330 or A340s and merge them with the WILCO panel? Not optimal, but the POSKY exterior models look great, and the WILCO panels whilst far from good are still as good as it gets right now.
  16. Sorry, can't go desktop, I need the thing to be portable. I now found this machine and I think I'll buy it: ASUS G750JZ-XS72 i7-4700HQ, 2.4 GHz 32GB DDR3L memory NVIDIA GTX 880M graphics, 4GB 1TB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 rpm) 512 GB SSD Not optimal I guess (although I still haven't understood why laptop isn't as good as desktop), but good enough to run FSX I hope. My only question: it comes with WIndows 8.1 installed, which I don't want because of the above-mentioned issues with PMDG. I do have a Windows 7 64bit installation CD-ROM. Can I just install Windows 7 instead, or will that "break" the computer? Thanks
  17. Looking to buy a new computer. Because I am moving between various houses I want to have my FS on a portable device, so since years I have been running my FS installations on laptops. I now want to buy a new computer. What I want to run: - FS9 (yes, still lovin it...) - Very very very heavy AI (>1,200 bgl files, always maxing traffic, at least the non-GA traffic) - Almost exclusively payware airports from the usual designers (Tampa, Aerosoft, FSDT, etc) - Payware or high quality freeware planes, some of them a bit older (such as POSKY), often with old-but-good panels (PSS panels on POSKY planes for instance) - The usual add-ons for weather, Utlimate Terrain, etc What I thought about buying Dell XPS 15 IntelCore i7, 4th generation (3.2 Ghz, 6MB) 16GB RAM Either Solid state hard disk 512 GB or 1 TB SATA hard drive+32GB solid state 2 GB nVidia GeForce GT 750M Is that sufficient "power" for a heavy duty FS? Also, the PC comes with Windows 8.1. Will that cause problems, should I rather stick with my Windows 7 Home Premium? And lastly, while I'll be running FS9 on this because I simply can't be bothered to convert all my AI and AFCADs to FSX, would this machine in theory be powerful enough to run FSX in case I decide to switch? Thanks for all hints and explanations. I am an absolute computer laymen, so thank you for keeping your explanations "IT for dummies"-like ;-) Chris
  18. Thanks guys, this is really helpful. I do have the rubber feet, so the PC does have "room to breathe". As for removing the dust - which I assume really is a problem, I haven't de-dusted it since I bought it - how do I do that? Or do I need to bring it to a shop that has special equipment for that?
  19. Can anyone help me find the cause and a possible remedy for this problem: I have been running FS9 on my PC (ACER Travelmate 7730 laptop) without any issues for the past three years. Now since two weeks I regularly have an issue about the machine "overheating" and shutting itself down. This problem only occurs when I have FS9 running. I have made no modifications to my FS setup other than added a few planes, AI plans and AFCADs. What could the cause be? Is there something I can look up on the software side (FS, OS, others)? Which tool to use? Or is it a hardware damage? Thanks for any hints. Chris
  20. Thanks Ron. I'll look into it this weekend and will play around with both adding a file myself and substituting with an existing file. Thanks again.
  21. Thanks! For some strange reason I had mis-read the sliders as controlling volume, not speed. Good to know. But regarding the callsigns I am not certain I understand your post correctly. When you say "It is described in a section of the RC menu" - you mean it says somewhere that adding callsigns is complex and therefore impossible? Or does it say how to do this complex thing of adding callsigns? And could you possibly guide me to where I can find that "section of the RC menu" - what is the RC menu? Do you mean the startup menu that comes up when I press on Start/Programs on my Windows taskbar? Thanks a lot!
  22. I bought RC a couple of days ago and so far I absolutely love it. I had been playing with the idea since many years but what kept me from buying it was that I thought to have understood that it doesn't have all the callsigns and that it was impossible to add new ones. For instance I wanted to fly Virgin America, callsign "REDWOOD", but that didn't exist in RC. In a recent exchange on simflight.com someone told me that this wouldn't be a restriction of RC anymore. "All" callsigns would be included (I understand that of course "all" isn't literally "all" but let's say 95% of what flies in FS, including small airlines and military), and that in any case I could edit/myself. Did I mis-understand something? Or do I miss something? How can I get callsigns like "Redwood" and others into RC? And another quick question: is there any way that I can accelerate RC speaking? I used to use EditVoicepack which has the option to accelerate talking speed and I got used to that speed, which I find much more realistic as well. Thanks for any hints.
  23. I did read the manual and the tutorial flights but there it still is unclear to me how to make sure I can fly a STAR exactly the way it is in the plans, both laterally and vertically. What I did: build my plan in FSBuild, including the STAR. Exported it all to FS9 and FSNav. When starting FS9 I also pulled up FS9 to see whether the full route including the STAR is in there. It is. Opened up FS9 flight planner, again all waypoints of the route including the STAR were included. I program my FMC with the route and STAR, all is in there including the altitude restrictions of the STAR. Thus, until here all is well. I then do my flight with with RC. All is well inflight. At one point ATC contacts me and asks me to descend to (example) FL190 at my own discretion. Since I haven't reached my TOD point yet I acknowledge and stay where I am. At the TOD I descend in VNAV mode. RC is still happy. But then suddenly it is starting to vector me. Why? I don't want any vectors and I don't need them, I have my STAR. So from the RC menu I select "IAP approach". The options I am given are the "default" procedures from FS9, but none corresponds to the STAR that I have planned, filed, put in FMC and actually want to fly. What to do? What must I file and/or what must I tell RC at which stage of the flight to make sure I can fly my STAR?
  24. Every day there are new flightplans in the AVSIM library, released by United Traffic Team/Michael Babitskiy. Not sure he is doing them all himself or whether there is a team behind it, but even then it's still an amazing output rate. They include some very big airlines that are probably complex to do. So how good are they? So far my quality benchmark is stuff by AIG and some of their "friends", where flightplans are usually complete in terms of flights and fleet, have a good balancing of aircraft usage, and are checked for errors. How do the UTT plans compare to that? If they are at least almost as good I'd get them, but if they are not good then I rather stick with an older plan and wait for a quality one to come out. Anyone used them and can say more about them? Thanks
