Geforce 7800, Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

I currently have a Geforce 6800 GT and am very happy with it. I read about the 7800 with SLI and read how incredibly fast it is supposed to be and wondered if anyone knows how this would run FS9.I have been into flight simulator since the C64 years and have done many upgrades on my system over the years. I found that the video card never really gave my any increase in FPS. The CPU upgrades, always gave me a few more FPS (some more than others). Flight simulator, with all the addons running (Traffic, weather etc..) seems to be, by far the most demanding program I run on my PC. Other games like the Battlefield series, Racing games etc... seem to be far less demanding and even run good on my wifes aging PC. Being that two 7800's can run well over $1500 for a video card, I wonder if there is really a market for this.Robert

Running 2 7800's will have no more better performance then running one 7800 in FS9. As said many times before FS9 does not take advantage of SLI at all. So if your main use is FS9, save your money and just get one.

Robert, I'd keep your 6800GT for a little whiler longer. No one has really seen any benchmarks for the new cards in MSFS, so its not known what impact (if any) it will have on MSFS.The new cards aren't the 'Ultra' version either, those are to be released later on.Personally I am waiting to see what ATI lays on the table in six or so months.

Cheers,

Thanks for the advice.Yes, I will not do anything for a while. I don't think a new video card will do anything for me at the moment. Im getting excellent FPS in every game running at full res right now. Until software starts to bring my 3.8 P4 to its knees, Ill hold off any any future upgrades.Rob
