First AMD system to be built.

Featured Replies

I've ordered my first AMD based system, nothing ground breaking, just the A8N mobo by Asus, 1G of memory, a PCI-e card and the CPU of course- with the San Diego core. I will be sticking to my current IDE HD's for a bit, and also migrating a PCI sound card into this new system.I've built and set up several Pentium systems. What, if anything, is going to be different in setting up the system and drivers with my AMD vs the P4? I did get the following advice (thanks Edwin and Soarpics :) ):http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=11815&page=Anything else that I need to know?Thnaks- Bruce.

I can't think of anything special you need to look out for. The only thing that caught me off guard was the 24 pin power supply when I did my last upgrade. I should have ordered a new power supply anyway, but didn't so I had to delay putting it together. Other than that little snafu, it was basic cookbook stuff.

Thanks- I must check on my power supply, I was thinking of installing this new main borad into my existing case. I guess I was thinking that the ATX format included a common power connection. Thanks-this might save some headaches later :)Bruce.

Which Asus A8N mobo...Deluxe or Premium?Btw...good choice for FS, just make sure you buy a quality 24pin power supply from either Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax or Ultra Products.

Well...I see I'm not the ONLY one to get home with their box full of computer parts...And come to find out about midnight during the build...You can't plug your power supply into your new SLI mb...he heThat Stinks!!Yeah...Since these guys hit on probably the most important issue concerning your build...I just wanted to mention the main differance your going to notice is how much better this system runs compared to your P4 systems...he heGood Luck and hope you enjoy!!Happy Holidays..
