December 15, 200520 yr I've ordered my first AMD based system, nothing ground breaking, just the A8N mobo by Asus, 1G of memory, a PCI-e card and the CPU of course- with the San Diego core. I will be sticking to my current IDE HD's for a bit, and also migrating a PCI sound card into this new system.I've built and set up several Pentium systems. What, if anything, is going to be different in setting up the system and drivers with my AMD vs the P4? I did get the following advice (thanks Edwin and Soarpics :) ):http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=11815&page=Anything else that I need to know?Thnaks- Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. December 15, 200520 yr I can't think of anything special you need to look out for. The only thing that caught me off guard was the 24 pin power supply when I did my last upgrade. I should have ordered a new power supply anyway, but didn't so I had to delay putting it together. Other than that little snafu, it was basic cookbook stuff. My Freeware Sceneries
December 15, 200520 yr Author Thanks- I must check on my power supply, I was thinking of installing this new main borad into my existing case. I guess I was thinking that the ATX format included a common power connection. Thanks-this might save some headaches later :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
December 17, 200520 yr Which Asus A8N mobo...Deluxe or Premium?Btw...good choice for FS, just make sure you buy a quality 24pin power supply from either Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax or Ultra Products.
