HELP WITH CRASHED HARD DISK !!!

Featured Replies

Hi guy's,All was going well until I did a driver update the otherday and installed the NVIDIA NFORCE STORAGE Controller and I got the dreaded "blue screen of death" !I did a system restore just before I installed the new drivers (to be sure) and when I tried getting back into SAFE MODE it camed up with the following after post bios "Verifying DMI Pool" !!I am unable to log into my system..I have tried the Windows XP recovery console and it tells me that I can't even get a "dir" to my c: drive due to some weired error.I have tried using software like "Active@ Undelete" and "Acive@ Partition Restore" and I can see the files and directories, but it seems that there may be an issue with the Master Boot Record. Is there any software out there that anyone has used that will restore the hard drive to "working order" ???I am using a Raid setup with 2 x 200GB Western Digital SATA drives. My Flightsim Directory is over 60gig..I can recover the files, but I would rather just try and get her going without all the mess of reinstalling everything. Also I heard that there was a utility available so you can install Flightsim "fresh" and relink all your files and apps without the need to reinstall them again (has anyone heard of this) ??Any help would be appreciated...I am in the IT game but you guys are the experts of my hobby and I thought I would ask some of the pro's out there. Thanks for your time.Regards,Ralf..Adelaide Australia.;-(

Is the "NVIDIA NFORCE STORAGE Controller", your raid controller. It sounds like you overwrote the raid software that is installed each time you boot your computer. As far as the "Verifying DMI Pool", that shouldn't have been a problem. Your BIOS will do that if it detects a change. Can you enter the computer BIOS and check all the settings you had prior to trying to update? Try a google search on "NVIDIA NFORCE STORAGE Controller" and see if your motherboard manufacturer has any help. Generally, the RAID software is installed prior OS installation.I can't tell you if you will need to reinstall your OS.You can keep your present copy of MSFS but rename the MSFS folder, reinstall to the same disk partition, then rename the new install folder (fs9new) then rename the old install to the correct MSFS folder name. Also make sure you find your ..fs9 folder under document and settings and copy to a safe location because the new install is likely to delete the old fs9 folder. You can recopy your data to the new ..fs9 folder after it is installed.W. Sieffert
