Lag Time In Opening Windows Explorer

Featured Replies

For the past few hours, if i try to open a folder or anything similar, my computer trys to load the task but then acts as if the command was never ordered. If im lucky, about 20 minutes later it will open up what i wanted to do before. Any idea why this long lag time is there?I have defragged and restarted numerous times, but im out of idea's in this situation (never had many to begin with for this problem).Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! :-wave

If you have any mapped network drives, try to disconnect them first then open up Explorer. (Sometimes network drives can have issues if proper connectivity isn't established)If you have any media readers for camera cards, try unplugging them... Do you have a CD/DVD, or possibly a floppy in the drive? Remove it and try. (Sometimes CD's and DVD's will be checked for their directory structure before displaying the window - but not 20 minutes worth)Ad-Aware time! Because Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are so closely intertwined, you may have a spy/malware product on your PC - it happens to the best of us! Check your drive for such issues and continue from there. If all of the above don't help, you may want to physically (or through BIOS) disconnect the CD-ROM drive and floppy, leaving the hard drive alone on the machine. Perhaps one of those components is causing your problem. Good luck, and keep us posted!-Greg

Hi Greg, removed the SD card for the camera and seems like that fixed it. Thanks for the advice!
