September 29, 200619 yr Yep, that's part of our A8N32SLI's, Bruce. My drivers for the "PCI standard ISA bridge" are shown as:Device Provider: MicrosoftDriver Date: 7/1/2001Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0You might have to force the driver install using the Add New Hardware features of XP (have that XP disc handy LOL).Greg
September 29, 200619 yr Author Thanks Greg- what functions won't be working as well (or not at all) without this harware item installed? I'm wondering about the impairment that I am enjoying :) at the moment.Thanks- Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 29, 200619 yr Unless you accidently drop some legacy ISA device into the case you should be fine. Does the "New Hardware" bubble appear when you reboot? If not... get to simming that beast. :-) Greg
September 29, 200619 yr Author Hi Greg,No- I don;t get the new hardware balloon.I did come across several posts on other forums after just now doing a web search. Several of these had the same solution to this very problem:"Well I was able to fix the issue...someone on another forum told me to put the ASUS CD in the drive and wait for the popup...well I did just that and now everything is running normal again...apparently it's the AI Booster that was causing the issuedidn't even have to download/update any drivers...just put the CD in the drive and a few seconds later when I checked my Device Manager the "Unknown Device" listing was gone... this mobo has so many little annoying quirks with it...but once everything is set up and working properly, it is an amazing board"__________________I have to somehow find that darned ASUS CD :) What's the "AI Booster"?Thanks- Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 29, 200619 yr What's the "AI Booster"?ASUS's idea of an overclocking utility. I'm more comfortable doing all the overclocking myself. I'm not keen about letting a utility do it and then not being absolutely certain about any and all changes the utility is making. Or that it's overclocking some feature I don't want overclocked.Greg
September 29, 200619 yr Author Thanks Greg. I think I am about to leave this isue and start simming. Thanks to you and Jaap for the helpful replies. Much appreciated.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 29, 200619 yr Great idea. Have fun with your new system. Mine's been rock solid for 6 months (FX-57 @ 3Ghz on air). Really a good MB to build on.Regards,Greg
September 29, 200619 yr Author Thanks, will do. Now to start tweaking and installing add-ons to FS9... the fun part :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 29, 200619 yr Have fun, Bruce! :-) Maybe Greg can attach the AI-Booster thing to an email if that's it? It's not availbale at Asus' site as far as I would dare to judge. Pls also feel free to post the Device_Id in case. Maybe Greg or I can see what we can do? IMHO, all the anomalies should be eliminated in the OS' device manager. I downloaded the A8N_etc_etc manual and had a quick look, impressive indeed! My A8N-SLi Premium(s) are Kindergarten compared to the options you fellas have. :-) And ohhh, before I forget, try to activate your DRAM's '1T Command Rate' in the bios. This alledgedly provides a further performance increase of (ca) 8%. 'Alledgedly' because 8% is almost non-perceivable. HST, pls note that certain memory modules do not like that setting at all and will cause CTDs/BSODs. I had a pair of OCZ Platinum sticks which were notoriously instable on numerous systems at 1T. I RMA'd them for standard modules and the 1T-probs vanished. :-) Good luck and kind regards, gentlemen. Have a nice weekend Jaap
September 30, 200619 yr Author Hi Jaap,By device_ID, do you mean:"PCI standard ISA bridge"?Going by some of the initial advice from Greg on RAM timing, and your "1T Command Rate" (are these both the same?), I must get to reading the manual for this motherboard soon! Thanks again to both of you, you have been a great help with this.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 30, 200619 yr Jaap, we're gonna give the poor fellow a headache if we don't leave him alone. :-) Bruce... go fly! Have fun! Enjoy your new rig. Wish I could help ya reload all your add-ons (get ready, there's a joke coming) but I'd rather have oral surgery! Once you're thoroughly bored (hopefully some time after the new sim is released), come back and I'll share some jpgs I have that will help you tune the BIOS for a little overclocking.Cheers,Greg
September 30, 200619 yr Author Great idea, Greg. I'll look forward to it! Commencing add-ons......I hope I get novocaine(sp?) first!Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 30, 200619 yr Yeah, go and have fun, Bruce! :-) Kind regards Jaap PS, because you asked :-), the Device ID is decribed in this post: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=13192&page=
