DX 10 Cards an Expensive Upgrade

Featured Replies

Just a note to all of you drooling over the new 880 cards. Odds are good you will need a new power supply. I have a new rig - just over 2 months old. 500 watt supply. But not near enough amps. The card requires 26 amps. Spent a good part of my weekdend figuring it out. Does anyone actually live near a Fry's. I always seem to be 45 minutes away...So, looking at a not inexpensive new juice box in addition to the card to get all DX10 and Vista ready. Plus the pain the butt factor of reconnecting all the wires. So, forewarned is forarmed. Save yourself a trip or two. Check on the amp requirements of the card you want, and then get it all in one trip. Colin

>Pc gaming is dying and here you can see why, hardware>manufacturers are killing it with there rediculous prices.>>MoWhat???.... Dying?? come on... it's always been like this, these "ridiculous" launch prices have been around since way back.Just don't jump the gun with new products.. new street price is always high.. give it time and they will lower eventually to a reasonable state. And as for that 8800, buying it now at launch price would seem foolish to me.. as with most new launched hw.

Agreed, Davis. And this seems to hold specially for GPUs... :-) Kind regards Jaap

Whats your source for those prices, except that link.

Hey Davis...how far have you got the X6800 cranked up...and how's the Reserator2 working out?I'm about to put together a new rig with the same CPU...am starting out air cooled with a Zalman 7700, but if it turns out to be a heat monster I may go looking for one of the Reserators.I just opened up another thread in the forum for a discussion of some of these hi-perf issues...would appreciate seeing your input there.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile
