November 24, 200619 yr Hehe yeah i know Jaap. Well ram is still high but then again.. i "had" to do it :( The thing im definatly NOT gonna invest in yet, is going for that 8800, that i cant justify lol too soon to buy imo. Ill wait for more options and see what ATI brings out later on... Cool stuff with the projector, be sure to post some pics, would love to see what it looks like ;) Have a blast with your rig too man :)
November 25, 200619 yr I'm a hardware sucker without a camera, Davis! It's sad, isn't it?!? :-) What about you, also having a ball with FSX? It looks like yet another VFR release, wadda ya think? I've still got a 512MB GPU standing by because I have to finish playing with a couple of 256-ers. It's a pity there are hardly any 512MB X1950pro Radeons. I like to adjust both TestTendos to the similar specs with only the GPU-brands differing. If I think about it (sometimes a man needs to think!), my first 2GB pair about 3 years ago costed ca 500(!) Euros. Now I could buy more than 4 for less and AM complaining!! :-) :-) Cheers and kind regards Jaap
November 28, 200619 yr Haha yes Jaap you are sad :(kidding, well to be honest i havent really taking the step to X yet, had it fired up once on the conroe, it ran very sweet but personally, not to knock X itself, but just doesnt look "right" yet in my eyes..ill wait abit so more stuff becomes avail. like meshes, aircraft etc... But 9 runs like a greyhound with pepper up its @$$ so you can image how fast :( .. WHAT???? THINKING??? Whats that :(... hehe yeah i know ram pricing is crazy at times, but i really dont think that will ever change, so i just buy it.. ram is never a waste. unlike CPU and GPU's
November 28, 200619 yr Ha, green pepper or red pepper? :-) :-) I'm still on DDR1(s939) and reluctant to make further DDR1 investments. DDR2 means new boxes. Naaa, I'll wait. :-) Patience is a virtue after all... Maybe I'll even be able to skip DDR2 and go directly to DDR3? ;-) Did I miss something, Davis? IMO, you should be seeing good results with FSX too. Or is it more a matter of those i.e. desert textures? Dusk/dawn blending is nicer too in FS9. FWIW, my simplistic recipy to acceptable FSX-perf, is locking the framerates at fairly low levels (17-19). Certes, not enough for acrobatics, but it's plenty for a regular cruise. With FSX, I really enjoy the feeling of not being on rails any longer. Last bit not least, Aces' FSX performance evaluation and the eventual solutions will be the determining factors on my end. Apart from what I mentioned above, I'm reluctant to invest into tech without a benefit. Since the FSX-results with my AMD64s seem very similar to those of C2D-users, I currently just don't see a benefit and could go a nice holiday instead? :-) Kind regards Jaap
November 28, 200619 yr No Jaap,Its runs good no issues there, but the issue is more the textures, not (yet) up to my liking, dusk/dawn is better though yeah. :) But im gonna wait until more stuff is avail. then along the line i might use X more ;)
November 28, 200619 yr Yeah, those textures look odd occasionally. The Oslo desert! :-) The dawn/dusk blending is also MUCH nicer in FS9. I'm going to check out X-Plane and the global scenery soon, maybe it's time to have a look at non-Windows technologies as well..? I'm a flightsim sucker who buys almost any fsim, be it just to support the devs. After all, I hardly ever use 'em. Too much involvement with MSFS, I guess... :-) Take care, Davissan. Kind regards Jaap
November 29, 200619 yr >Too much involvement with MSFSNo such thing Jaap-san :( cant get enough of it hehe.
