November 27, 200619 yr Hello All, I have installed a nVidia 7600gs card and i am getting a warning when i start that nVidia Systems Sentinel has found that the card is not getting enough power and has adjusted it so the card can run ok, i have a 430w Power unit, i was running a FX5700 before with all the same Specs in the computor but i can't find out where to see what the minimum watts the 7600 needs , Silly question but would having a 650w be a good way to go be that it will cost me
November 27, 200619 yr Of course, just because it says 430 watts doesn't mean it's still producing all it's original power. You DID connect the secondary power supply cord to the card didn't you? I'm using the BFG GeForce 7600GS OC with 450watt PS without problems. My next system WILL have as large a PS there is on the market however 8-) Hmmm, come to think of it, just like this one did :-lol
November 27, 200619 yr Dod,What cardslot is it? AGP or PCIe. If AGP check the Molex thats on the card, be sure to put power on it. If PCIe you don't need an extra powerplug on it.What brand is that PSU?. A 350w PSU is the minimum, but whats even more important are the amps over the rails. How much amps do you have on your 12v rail from the 430w? (which is enough for a 76). And what other components does your system consist of?NOTE: A higher PSU with stronger and stable rails is better and safer, but just keep in mind, that a PSU only provides that much power as is needed by the system. So if you buy a 650W, and your system only needs 500W it pushes out that.
November 27, 200619 yr Hi Lads, Thanks for the help , one ,i can't see the make of the pu and two i cant see a spare cable to fit on the card coming from the power unit, although the chap i bought it from said that as it was a AGP slot i would not want another cable to it, i thought i would just see if there was an extra connector, So as i'm not too clued up i think its best left in case i bugger something up and i'll take it to the shop tomorrow and get it sorted, Again thanks for your help, Cheers Dodger.
November 27, 200619 yr Even the AGP card needs a second power cord going to it.. I guess this was a used item then without instructions or the power cord/plug.Good luck at the shop :-)
November 28, 200619 yr Allright dod, if you dont want a cable running to it you need the PCIe version. Anyway better take it to shop if you are not comfortable digging inside the case, hope you get things sorted :)
November 28, 200619 yr Hi All, Yup once i get the cable to it i hope it will be ok, Its just after Staggerwing saying perhaps it may have been a second hand card i thought at first i may have been conned,[Phew!!]i bought it from a shop and it was sealed but one never knows ,anyway i phoned the shop and they are getting a cable , Thanks guys for the help ,i am on holday for a week so i will not get it sorted till next week when i get back but i will post when its done , Cheers Dodger.
January 1, 200719 yr I also have a Nvidia 7600GS (PNY brand) thats new. I have a 350W PS, and thats plenty. There is a requirement for an extra power cord. I had a five prong plug wire that came with the card. I just hooked it into my system and it worked great.I am still looking for recommendations on best and most stable driver for this card though.Eric AND
January 1, 200719 yr >I have a 350W PS, and thats plentyOf course that depends on what other power draws you have installed in your system that could operate at the same time as the video card...
January 5, 200719 yr >>I have a 350W PS, and thats plenty>>Of course that depends on what other power draws you have>installed in your system that could operate at the same time>as the video card...To add to that, UNDER voltage can do damage to components too if unlucky.
