Upgrading RAM

Featured Replies

I decided to try the FSX demo, and frames are a charm with a little adjusting. My only problem is the RAM and/or my video card. The textures take an eternity to load, and before they do it looks like roads are going all over the place. My current RAM is 512MB (No wonder! I haven't paid attention to my PC in the last couple years.:-) ) Video Card is Nvidia FX 5500 128MB (I don't know if this is crap or not, but it sounds like it is.)I need serious bang for the buck here. Can anybody tell me what RAM I can upgrade to for UNDER $200? I don't know about the video card, but if it needs upgrading, what is a suitable one for also under $200? I don't want to have to upgrade the video card if I don't need to. As long as the textures load and I am getting my 15-21FPS, that is all I need to get the full version. As you can see, I know little to nothing about computers! Thanks!

Hi, what are your other specs like CPU, display/resolution, etc. The demo has heaps of water. It's not very dense... ;-) Best Jaap

Thanks for the answer...CPU is Intel Pentium 4 2.50GHz. I'm running it on 1024x768. I don't know if this is needed or not, but I have an AGP 8x slot. Anything else you need to know? Thanks!

Anything else you need to know?>>Thanks!>Do you know the type designation for your memory? (ex: PC3200) or atleast it's rated speed (ex: 400Mhz) DDR or DDR2? Judging by how old your system is I would guess DDR. It is important you use memory that is compatible with your motherboard, and BIOS. Not all memory will work in every motherboard! If you don't know, you can go to crucial.com and use their memory advisor tool to find out which to use for your system. For FS9 you really need a minimum of 1GB and preferably 1.5-2GB, and FSX runs best woth 2GB. 512MB these days just doesn't cut it any more!!

Thanks
