Northbridge Chipsets

Featured Replies

Hi all, which are some of the best northbridge chipsets out there for motherboards.I like the NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb, but there is also VIAPlus, will I notice a huge difference using a sigle channel mobo for ram instead of duel channel? Im going to be installing 2gig of memory on my next board that Im replacing, but Im kinda limited on the 754 pin boards that are still available out there. Thanks,Bill

Hi Bill, for the day to day user, you wont notice that much using either chipsets. Couldn't find any NF3 articles that quickly, but here's a link, addressing NF4 vs VIA. http://www.behardware.com/art/imprimer/558 it will give you some idea behind the technology. As far as ram, the differences between single and dual channel are very minimal, and hardly noticeable with the average application that all said. In your case Dual Channel on an socket 754, you don't need to worry about that since the 754 isn't using dual-channel at all, since with AMD's the memory controller is on-die, and it only holds a single controller. Despite that it is wise to get two matching sticks, only for the case you decide to upgrade to a socket 939.
