HELP! need to move FS files, but can't!!!!

This is an odd one. I thought I knew all about file sharing and security on my own computer -- apparently not.I use partitioning. Recently I had to reformat Windows because of the usual buildup of muck on it, so I religiously reformat the Windows partition once or twice a year. However this time an odd issue arose. Some of my folders, on one partition in particular, are now read only to me. I am not allowed to delete them, I am not allowed to move them -- I can only run them. I CAN access them from my second computer on the network, but the situation is still the same -- i cannot edit the files, just look at them.I can't believe I've been denied permission to do what I want with my own files on my own computer. So I went through the following troubleshooting steps:Noted the error: "Cannot Delete (or move, depending on what I am trying to do) FILENAME: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."Obviously it is a hard drive, so that rules out write protection. As for being full, the partition I am moving to has PLENTY of space. I tried deleting a few text files - so that means the problem is with the source drive, not the destination drive. Also i cannot move anything TO the folder. I went to the upper level of the partitioon and I CAN delete/move files on the partition -- it's just specific folders that were shared, etc. before the format that went into lockdown. Thus the troubleshooting continues . . . . Opened the folder properties. The folder was not shared so I decided to share it to see if i can even do that -- it lets me. Clicked on permissions. In Share permissions it states Read, but not Full Control or Change. Decided to check that. Also the only one in the list for Share permissions is "Everyone", not the usual "Administrator, etc."Now I am in the Security tab. On most of my folders I see Administrator as at least one of the owners. I do not here. And here's the kicker -- unlike my other folders, I do not have the option to ADD a group or user name!!!The users present are "Everyone" and 3 others beginning with "S-1-5-21"I am now stumped as to what to try next. I have no AV or spyware software enabled on this machine as it is directly a Flight Sim computer. This rules out AV/SW software interferance.Any ideas? I am trying to organize all of my FS Addon downloads and can't now due to this mess :-(OH -- and before anyone directs me to "search the net" for this error, all net searches get is network errors and how to correct file sharing. That's not the case here. It's deeper than simple file sharing.

>i cannot edit the files, just look at them.I'm guessing you right clicked on these files and tried to change them from "Read Only" and still can't do anything ?Have you gone with SP2 since the last time it worked for you ?XP?

First, copy the files to the new drive. Then download this freeware utility, called Unlocker;http://www.topdrawerdownloads.com/download/104402Use it to delete the old directory.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

It wouldnt alow me to take the items off read only.I got access to the permissions finally, though. Had something to do with my taking "ownership". I foret how i did it, though :-( So I am downloading that utility for future use. Many thanks again for the help.
