New Radeon x1650Pro has serious display problems...Help Please...

Featured Replies

Please see attached screenshot. I replaced my well-aged TI-4200 128MB with an X1650 Pro 512 card on my design machine. I know it's a lower end card but expected an improvement over the TI4200 - especially since I went from 128 to 512 MB. The new card takes a long time to load the textures where they loaded almost instantly with the TI4200. The textures on the main terminal in the foreground of the picture will not load regardless of how long I wait.I used nfr (Nvidia removal tool) then installed the latest Catalyst drivers from the ATI website.I have no idea what's going on but I have never seen such a poor quality display - slow and non-loading textures, insane jaggies. It seems that this new card is not working at all. I have a friend with the same card and he gets a very good display.Any ideas?? Thanks,Adamhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170859.jpg

You might want to check the fs9.cfg file for a lingering DISPLAY.Device.xxxx section with settings for the old card. Also, make sure you have not tweaked your WinXP memory management to "Optimize for cache"--works OK with nVidia, but that setting in combination with an ATI card will very likely give you an early opportunity to reformat your HDD and start over.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Thanks Bob.I did in fact find a residual reference to the TI4200. I deleted the cfg, rebuilt a new one and the new card showed up as the display device as the ATI card and still the problem persists. I had quite a time getting the ATI drivers installed - took a few times and finally no errors. Have never touched the WinXP memory management. I've installed several cards and never had a problem before.Anyway, the store I bought it from has a 14 day "no questions asked" return policy so I'm trading it in on an Nvidia card. Thanks again,Adam

Adam,See my post above entitled: "Graphics Help needed"...I'm having the same problem on a brand new set-up that came with this card so the cfg file etc. was never an issue. However, the jaggies were an issue and I think I solved that by adjusting my monitor's 'refresh rate' in the ATI catalyst control center to match my Gateway 22" refresh rate and that was 72kz. That seemed to somewhat get rid of the zaggie/jaggies. However, any weather with clouds in it brings it to it's knee.Regards, jack

Hey Jack. Thanks. I got so ###### with the hassle that I un-installed the card and re-installed my old TI4200 and I'm back in business. 3 days of screwing around with the card, drivers, settings :( I just gave up. I've ordered a 7900 GS card. Hopefully it's a hassle-free installation.Best of luck with your setup.Cheers,Adam
