R22 For FS ... should be ready soon

Featured Replies

HiThought you might like to see a couple of shots of my Robo for FS.got the engine left to model and then some V cockpit work to doScheme not yet decided... the paint on the model is only to help with placing and sizing.Hope you enjoyJohn

Looks pretty cool. Question: are you using the default bell 206 airfile? Please post screens as you progress, can't wait for it. :)

Looks very nice!Another respondent queried you on the flight model - I read somewhere that all FS2002 helos are based on essentially the same model. Is that true? The R22 is a twitchy little mother, and I wonder if its "touch" can be adequately modeled in FS... Right after finishing my PPL in the Schweizer 300CB, I flew an R22 for an hour plus, and it took me a while just to be able to hover it. Quite a different experience!Based on your screenshots, you seem ideally qualified to follow-up the '22 with the '44. I would really like to see a well-modeled R44!cheers,Dave BlevinsKRHV

DaveWork on the Handling will start when I have the model completed.I owned a R22 for a couple of years and will try to get it as near as I can.John

Dave & John,It's true -- despite claims by a couple of designers, all helos are only variations of the default Jet Ranger. They can plug in real world values all they want but it's still the Jet Ranger. What's even sadder is the effect of the so-called realism control. Any work a designer may put in to the airfile and/or aircraft.cfg file is completely negated when the user sets the realism at something other than used by the designer. Therefore, I suggest your time is best spent on the visual model.I have very limited experience on a real R22 but I think the default Jet Ranger at max realism is pretty close -- except for yaw response to pedal input. MS deliberately sets the yaw MOI high -- to accomodate people using their twist sticks. With pedals, I find yaw response to pedal inputs is far too sluggish -- nowhere near realistic. But, it's easy to correct in the aircraft.cfg file.Calhover long and prosper

Hope it won't be too hard on the frame rates. :)

HiI am paying very close attention to this aspect. During the whole build I am only using the min polys and I think you will find it is quite kind on FPSJohn

John:Very nice model! Are you using 3D Studio or GMAX? If 3D studio, would you mind sharing the complete model, cockpit, etc. so it can be imported to Fly! HiIt's modeled with FSDS2 if there is a plugin that allows export to 3DMAX you are welcome to try getting it into FLY.Let me knowJohn

John:Don't know if you have the CVA plugin and/or if it will work with the current version of FSDS. You can download them right from here:http://flightsim.periskop.cz/util_go.php?id=16&lan=1With these plugins you can create a DXF file which can then be imported into 3D Studio. Thanks!!!Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTFly! So how is it coming along, John? Not to put any pressure on you or anything..... ;-) It would be nice to have a good R22 with a VC. I hope you didn't abandon the project with the announcement of an R22 in FS9. -Lindy :-rotor:-wave

Hi LindyI have been touring New Zealand for the last month and only arrived home yesterday. The project is still being worked on and I have arrived home to find James from the File Lib here at Avsim has kindly sent me a R22 sound package to use.The fact that the next version of FS will have an R22 is good news and has not put me off at all as I do this for fun and relaxation in the evenings.RegardsJohn
