Hi. After months of puting it off, I have dove into Antti's Dauphin and have got it working. Now to figure out all this autopilot stuff! I use a Saitek X45 and am wondering if I can assign the rotary knobs as the fuel control and rotor control in the dauphin.cfg file. Has anyone tried to assign more that the standard 4 axis's to this bird? Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Hi tkjake,Saw this posted in the General forum, and I agree with Aidi that we'll probably find more answers here.I think we have the same problem, but with different sticks. I use the Cougar, and wish to program the controls as you mentioned. My problem is what functions within the sim to assign to specific HOTAS axis. I.E. what is the collective called in the sim's Axis Assignments, and what is the cyclic called in the sim's Axis Assignments. Hope this is what you meant in your original post. If not, I'll apologize in advance for hijacking your question.Regards,

Hi. Not sure about the Cougar (nice) but I had to call mine "SLIDER0" to get collective control and I bet that would work for you too.

"Are we all aware that your joystick is supposed to be disabled within FS2K2?Uhh... no.Actually maybe I should take my question to another thread. I'm trying to set-up the Cougar to work in Cyril Pioffet's Gazelle. Sorry, tkjake... I'll let Kaydub assist you here. Thanks,

I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer to fly without using that Dauphin specific control stuff. Disabling the gauge in the panel config makes it work fine with my X45's regular setup. (Which does have the rotaries assigned for mixture/prop pitch in the regular FS2k2 config.) But then, I like to do bush flights so don't really need or want an autopilot for a copter. That landing gear gauge is very nice though and ought to be standard equipment on any copters that need one. :)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

The other way people bypass the joystick config stuff, is not to disable the joystick... apparently you can still use the AP, however! the AP will not function correctly and you may see some unpredictability in the action of the AP.I don't like that method...CheersAlun

Leaving the autopilot gauge active can have odd side effects, since controls that may be bound to one thing in the game may be bound to something else in the autopilot system. Which is why I disabled the gauge in the first place, I wasn't about to go through all that mess for a copter I don't fly very often. :)"Let me help you out. If you don't disable your joystick you are really missing out on the best aspects of this wonderfull aircraft. The way that this helo is packaged now the config file is in the aircraft folder and not in the FS main folder. There really is no reason not to keep your joystick enabled. Disabling wont affect any other aircrafts joystick functions. All you have to do is remember to re-enable when changing to another aircraft. All you have to do is get over the learning curve by reading the documents and experimenting with the functions and you will be off! When disabled, this a/c provides a better realism, try switching the line1 and line2 hydraulics off while flying in the manual mode and see what kind of response you get. Their really is so much you can do with this autopilot function even when not actually using the autopilot modes. I think that next to Jordan Moores Huey this is one of the best .AIR files around. Thats just my $.2 worth.
