August 30, 200817 yr Hi guys,Just wondering if anyone can help me. I've got a bit of a peculiar request here. I'm trying to find out what the routing into Kai Tak would have been assuming coming in from Europe on Airway B330 to (say) POU and making the approach for IGS13. I can work to POU and from CH. Does anyone know what a typical r/w routing was from POU to CH? As always, thanks for the help.Bob.
September 1, 200817 yr Hey Bob,http://hk.vatsea.net/airports/VHHX_AR.pdfThese are not real world charts by any means, but give a great idea of what the 'inbounds' into Kai Tak were, Europe-Hong Kong was usually on B330 all the way down to TAMOT before starting the procedure.
September 1, 200817 yr Author Cheers Patrick,Thanks for that.I see then that the routing would be: POU-TAMOT-MIKE-CHARLIE-CH, then GOLF, etc. to IGS13That routing from TAMOT to CH is approx 140nm! That seems awfully long. Do you know whether that was the "typical" routing actually flown by inbound aircraft from Europe? (or was there typically a "short cut" given by ATC?)I appreciate the help,Regards,Bob.
September 2, 200817 yr Hmmm I can't really make a comment on Kai Tak. The arrival routing is so long because Guangzhou usually don't give descent clearances to Hong Kong bound traffic. It is this way at the new airport with the SIERA arrivals. The traffic needs those extra track miles to get down, so they extend the arrival throughout Hong Kong airspace. What happens sometimes is ZGZU (Guangzhou Control) gives a descent clearance to FL170 by SIERA, traffic permitting, and flights are given radar vectors and lots of track shortening. I assume the same would have happened at Kai Tak from TAMOT to CH.
