WXre offline download error

Featured Replies

Hi, I purchased WXre and am having problems downloading cycle files in offline mode. The program works fine in online mode but I have dial up and don't want to tie up my phone with online. My UTC offset is set correctly (I think...) at -5 for east coast USA.When I attempt to download a new WX cycle file I get a 'error or timeout' message and can't go further. This is a great addon but I have to get it working in offline mode. Thanks for any help. Bill

Hi Bill,The NOAA servers where wxRE gets its weather data had some trouble couple of days ago. Now again, You propably got a bad download cycle from the NOAA server. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon ! This one is a longshot:One of our beta testers did a complete reinstall of ActiveSky, including deleting all the files in the wxRE directory and that helped for him. But since the problem is propably due to NOAA servers I don't know if it'll work...EDIT: You could try this too...http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID81answer#2: reboot helped this guy...Let us know,Viljamihttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Thanks Viljami,I installed wxRE on my laptop and it runs fine offline. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with AOL. When I run FSMeteo with AOL there is a box I have to check in the preferences for it to work. My desktop machine only has AOL while my laptop has juno. For now it looks like i'll be transfering files via floppy.Bill

Hi Bill,The problem is not with "proxy" settings, I don't think, but is more about the VERY SLOW speed of AOL web access. During offline file download, there is quite a bit of data ('quite a bit' being relative... remember this is AOL) that needs to get downloaded trouble free. If you can go to the NOAA website at http://www.aviationweather.gov, go to Standard Brief, METARs, and try to download any cycle file (at the bottom of the METAR page). If you have success and it downloads timely then there IS a problem with ActiveSky here for some reason and I will try to fix it. But if no dice getting this cycle, then the problem is your internet connection.. AOL just isn't sufficient for reliable download of this amount of data.BTW you can ALWAYS download your cycle files manually instead of auto download button.. see readme.txt file for more info and see the existing files for learning how the format of it all is.This is the first report I've had of this, so I will use the results of your tests to determine how to address this in the documentation / faq and list of requirements in the product info sheet on the website (to warn potential AOL users that they may have problems). Thanks for any help you can provide Bill!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table
