December 19, 200223 yr Hello again Damian,Now that I've had the opportunity to take a few flights, I am now convinced that there are a couple of bugs with wxRE, at least one of which appears to be specific to the use of WidevieW. First of all, I will readily admit that as a WidevieW user, I'm clearly in the minority, and I understand that you will have to devote most of your time and energy to clearing up problems that effect the masses. But if you can figure out how to resolve these two issues, well that would be great.1) About 30 minutes into a flight, FS2002 on my two client computers locks up. This is not a hard lock up as I can terminate the program with the task manager. When I do so, I receive a message that appears to indicate a memory problem. I will capture a screen shot next time if you're interested.2) When I pass through ~3000 ft, my air speed indicator stops working, indicating 0 knots. It remains this way for the remainder of the flight. These two quirks are very reproducable. If you're interested in takling them, let me know and I'll do a better job of documentation. Note that these problems are unique to wxRE - I did not encounter them with ActiveSky 1.5.
December 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member Hello David..I haven't heard such reports yet, and I know we have several wideview users and beta testers. Perhaps there is a problem with wxRE, but I would first check the following:- Running FSUIPC v2.94?- Using ADVDISP? Make sure you have the newest version that was just released - it fixes some problems- PITOT heat? Airspeed indicator not working usually due to icing from clouds, solved by applying pitot heat before entering the cloudsIf this does not solve the problems please let me know and we will look into it further. Please also let me know what other add-ons you are running. As to FS2002 crashing, I don't see how this can be caused by wxRE, all wxRE does to interact with FS is send messages to FSUIPC. Perhaps you have one too many applications going on the same PC? Let me know.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 19, 200223 yr Hi Damian,I did some more flying, and had another FS2002 crash. Figured it was as good a time as any to catch a couple of screen shots of the error report. Here is the first window after entering the task manager: http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e017e9859fd47f4.jpg And after clicking on OK, here is the second message: http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e017ed25b1532bf.jpg I suppose it's possible that I do run out of memory, but I have the same amount (512 MB) on all three machines. If you look at my profile comments, you can see the stats on all three of my computers. Interestingly, the machine that always quits first is the P4 equiped box, and this is always the first to go without fail. And if I didn't make it clear before, I will now - FS2002 on the server has never crashedOne last piece of information - as I was on final for my last destination, my airspeed indicator came back to life. I find it interesting that my final destination was where I started out my evening of flying. So there you have the facts as I know them. I really want to continue using wxRE, but if I cannot stop the client crashes, I'll probably have to go back to ActiveSky 1.5.
December 19, 200223 yr Hi Damian,Our posts must have crossed nodes in transit :-lol. I'm running v2.94 of FSUIPC. As far as applications, I have WidevieW, and of course FS2002, running on the clients. That's it. It may be significant that these problems came up when I was flying in multiplayer mode. I may need to try without MP enabled to see if the problem persists. Of course, using MP mode is something I cannot do without. I'll download and install ADVDISP, maybe that will help. One thing that is different - when I used ActiveSky, I ran it on all three computers simulataneously since that worked better than running it on the server alone. But wxRE worked so well on the server, with WidevieW handing off the weather to the clients, that I haven't installed it on the clients (not to mention that this is payware, and I don't want to violate any licenses). Do you think that could be the differnce? I'd gladly pay for additional copies if that will solve the problemAs for pitot heat, well now I must turn a shade or two of red. I don't think I had it on for this flight. I'll pay closer attention next time to see if that's the cause of my problem.
December 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member David,I am at a complete loss here. There is nothing that wxRE can be responsible here for?... First of all there is no indication that wxRE is having any problem.Second, we have dozens of WidevieW users with no problems at all like yours.Third, your FS2002 error messages unfortunately don't help, I don't know why FS2002 is crashing but I can almost guarantee that it has nothing to do with wxRE directly.Fourth, There are many variables here, and the problem may be with FS2002 itself, WideView, FS2002 settings, cloud sets, graphic settings, etc... many variables. As to any difference between AS20021.5 and ASwxRE, as far as FS2002 is concerned, there is NONE. The memory usage and requirements is only slightly higher and all communications routines with FS are identical. At this point I don't know how to help you, except to say that I really think your problem lies in some other software or hardware setting/compatibility problem. Have you tried upgrading video drivers? Did you run it with the new ADVDISP? You have re-installed wxRE? Made sure ALL FSUIPC settings are as recommended? Tried cloud density slider less than max? Have you tried isolating it, try running without Wideview? Try setting weather manually in FS (without wxRE loading AT ALL) and confirm there are or are not problems?Have you contacted the author of Wideview? Microsoft FS2002 support? Computer hardware support?I hate to sound like I'm giving you the run-around I'm just trying to help any way I can. Please explore your options and when you find out what the problem was please let me know so I can use it for future reference! Again, you're the only one reporting problems so far like this but perhaps in the future there may be more. Thanks David! Good luck...-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member Hi, some more info...Apparently setting max vis to 60nm can cause lockups with wideview. This is a known wideview issue. (I am learning as I go)... Set to above 60nm and problem goes away. Also, wideview is known to cause lockups when under heavy workload. Try reducing sliders or unloading unneccessary programs.Another problem with wideview is higher cloud densities. It is suggested to try at 50% to avoid problems. Also recommended is try the "Blocking" checkbox... change the setting here to see if there are improvements. This is new stuff to me, I don't have wideview and have no direct experience with it except for my Beta team who I believe 3 or 4 use it with no problems. They probably have already worked out the above so this is why no errors reported.Hope this info helps you out David.. let me know how it turns out! Thanks..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 20, 200223 yr Hi Damian,You're a champ!! I know of few others that would go to the lengths that you have to help someone with what really is an obscure problem. After writing last night, I remembered that when using ActiveSky I had all the FSUIPC settings disabled (for wxRE I set up FSUIPC per your instructions). I was able to get good weather though by placing ActiveSky on all three computers and turning off the weather transfer options for WidevieW.I am a scientist for a living, so if there's one thing I'm good at, it's investigating puzzles like this and solving them. I will now do just that for WidevieW and wxRE. Because the problem takes 30-45 minutes to develop, it will take me a while to sort through everything. Fortunately, a quick review of the WidevieW forum indicates that others have encountered this problem before, so at least I won't have to reinvent the wheel here. Together with your suggestions, I'm certain I'll get the bugs worked out (pun intended). Once I find the best solution, I'll report back to you so that you'll be better able to serve your loyal followers
