Winter Textures Transferred

Featured Replies

When I start my FS in Canada (winter) with ActiveSky wxRE it loads just fine. However, if I change airports to Hawaii or Florida, the winter textures follow my change. This is a bit disconcerning to see snow in Florida and Hawaii. I do press refresh wxRE and I get the appropriate weather, but still there is all that snow on the ground. Changing airports without ActiveSky wxRE works fine. I have tried loading ActiveSky before and after I start my FS and the results are the same. Is this a bug?

Not really a bug, but the way FS is. Winter textures start being drawn on Dec 21 or 22 no matter where you fly. You can change this in the World/Time&Season menu. Just choose a different season. Nothing in wxRE can change it.

Hi>Not really a bug, but the way FS is. They move southwards as the winter season develops. You can actually see a daily change if you start up further North. Actually this is a nice feature about FS because as you fly southwards in the Winter you see the snow areas decreasing and as you get in the far south they disappear altogether.>You can >change this in the World/Time&Season menu. I just tried the same thing: Started in Detroit with snow textures and wxRE started. Moved to Miami and guess what? Green grass all around.

To reproduce this condition start in an northern area that is below 32F and snowing.

Yep I now see what you meant. Only happens with wxRE running.

Hi,It only happens when you have freezing, snowing conditions and it is winter for that particular spot on the globe. You can easily reproduce this WITHOUT wxRE. Just set the weather freezing and snowing, then go to a nice warm climate and guess what?wxRE not technically at fault here... This is what happens in FS2002 when it loads the textures... it says "Hey look it's winter and it's freezing and snowing outside, who cares where we are on the globe, there must be snow on the ground!" The weather updates only after you have changed locations, but the textures don't get reloaded automatically. Note that this pertains to GLOBAL weather and not LOCAL (FS2002 real weather, hence why the appearance that wxRE is causing this when compared to real wx).As suggested to the poster of this thread (via e-mail), you can get around this "feature" by changing the weather (esp temperature) before you change airports. (i.e. quit wxRE, clear weather, change locations, restart wxRE). Another solution is to force a reload of FS2002 textures after it gets the new weather. You can do this by connecting/disconnecting from a multiplayer session (e.g. go into host mode and then disconnect). This is a well known "feature" that is not wxRE's fault, and I can try to come up with a solution to get around this, but it is not clear how... Suggestions of course are always welcome and appreciated! As a good beta-tester would do I was able to do the same, because at first I didn't believe it to be true. Can you hard code a "clear global weather" command?

Hi,Yes but when to clear? -Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

With a new station. That way if you jump from a North airport to a South airport, the textures would load correctly.

>Can you hard code a "clear global weather" command? I think that "clear local weather" command might be more appropriate.

Now I am totally confused and that is hard to do. Is this a GLOBAL weather issue or a LOCAL weather issue? Anyone?
