January 18, 200323 yr I may have double posted this by mistake, AVSIM is acting a little goofy this morning. Apologies if so
January 18, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi, thanks for your input! You are correct about a single wind layer, but there is more to this decision than meets the eye..First of all, multiple wind layers cannot be used with turbulence without severe frame rate problems. Second, Wind smoothing via FSUIPC requires a single layer. Wind smoothing COULD be done via wxRE but because it already exists in FSUIPC, and the above limitation, we chose one single layer. Now, there is another limitation we have to work with which is that external weather interface is allowed via GLOBAL weather only. The way we have eliminated this ATIS problem is by providing FLIGHTWATCH access. New voice FLIGHTWATCH and an ATIS replacement is coming soon as well..We have also worked hard for full RC3 integration to provide accurate surface conditions for the arrival airport, including wind speed. (The new 3.01 update is needed, due in a couple days). While I am certain that we cannot add more wind layers without compromising frame rates due to turbulence features, I will take your input into consideration and continue to work on better solutions here..
