January 30, 200323 yr I provide this information in case I've discovered a bug with ActiveSky and not because I know much about weather systems or reporting. I would however appreciate knowing whether these weather reports are in fact accurate.I frequently fly the CYHZ (Halifax, N.S. Canada) to CTTY (St. John's Newfoundland, Canada) route (V314) which takes me over St Pierre (LFVR). On each flight(at least the last3 this week) I have encountered thunder and lightening as I approach St Pierre which lasts for a period of 10-20 nm. This seems a bit unusal as the outside temperature at FL210 was -35 - -40. I cleared my FS2002 weather prior to each flight. I use Wx processing and have input from CYHZ, CYQY, LFVP and CTTY on route. Here is the report I received most recently as well as the location where I experience this weather:LAT N46.38.45LON W057.43.50LFVP 2 772Z 231206 22015KT 9999 SCT025 BKN080TEMPO 1306 8000 RA FEW018 SCT020 BKN080 PROB30 TEMP BQIPYLFVP 242200Z 34022G32KT 0800 -SN BLSN BKN010 BKN026 M04/M05 Q0982Any comments?
January 30, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi,There is nothing in those METAR/TAF strings that would cause TSTORMS (unless there IS a bug) but I am thinking there was different weather reported somewhere along your route that was processed, that contained either "TS" (meaning ThunderStorms) or "CB" (also meaning Thunderstorm clouds). There was another user report of a problem here, but it ended up being "CB" in the report, which ASwxRE properly processed and created TSTORM clouds. If you could provide a screenshot of the main and runtime screens when you encounter TSTORMS I could verify all this for you.. if there is indeed a bug then thank you for your report, and we'll get it fixed!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 31, 200323 yr Damian,Just a thought. Isn't there an option in FSUIPC to "generate thunderstorms randomly" - I think if ticked it is triggered by a combination of conditions. Could this be why some people are getting unexpected TS?Best wishesKeith Cocker
January 31, 200323 yr Yes, in the Clouds section of FSUIPC 2.95 (and earlier). You can set the likelihood of a thunderstorm and set the conditions under which they may occur. That's the first place I would look, I believe.By the by, for anyone wanting to reproduce the flight and aren't familiar with the area, St. John's, NF (Canada) is actually CYYT, not CTTY - FYI).Glenn
