Hi all,I wanted to keep everyone informed on the progress of the next update..Recent progress has been slower than expected due to some unforseen complexities of providing full worldwide winds aloft in both online realtime and offline modes without a private weather server. Fortunately, this is now 95% complete and just needs some more fine-tuning. I'm sure everyone will be very pleased with the results here.A new feature will be included: Voice FlightWatch. This compliments the current FlightWatch feature by providing decoded voice in ATIS and FW styles depending on options. When tuning to 122.0, you will get current and arrival airport updates spoken to you. Custom voice set creation is supported and explained in the docs. Airport names and extended local ATIS messages are supported.Several performance enhancements have also been made, which should reduce overhead and any pauses or stutters that some users may experience (especially on systems with many add-ons).Lastly, a few bugs have been addressed, including problems with visibility ("////"), force not updating wx correctly, winds aloft applied to surface, VATSIM weather downloads, and more. New options will include disabling all forced wx updates, proxy port control and flightwatch settings control.The new update will be named v1.6. The skip from v1.15 to v1.6 is to avoid confusion with the freeware add-on (at v1.5). Full-time development work continues and I am very close to having this wrapped up and off to the beta team.Your patience and support is appreciated, and thanks again for all the great input! The update will be provided free of charge to all existing users. I'm anxious to see how the "Century of Flight" weather engine is improved and how you are going to make it even better. Will it also cure the (seemingly random) lockups?I've been encoutering ActiveSky suddenly starting to consume up to 99% CPU time.This happens mainly over Germany it seems, so could have something to do with the local METAR format on some reporting stations causing ActiveSky do find itself in an eternal loop trying to decode them.At least that's what to me seems to be happening (program doesn't respond to input, screen isn't updated, 100% CPU consumption (rapidly rising from close to nothing in a few seconds), etc. are all consistent with an endless loop).

Excuse me, please, but in the list of winds aloft stations, what happened to Western Europe?There are no entries for, among others, France, UK, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, only two in Germany..., no North Atlantic stations, no Iceland, Greenland...Hoping this is just an error and that the much-awaited winds aloft will not be giving NW Europe fliers winds-aloft interpolated between readings from Casablanca and Bergen... :-)Thanks,

I might be missing something, but if the nearest station is 1000nm away, won't that impede the simulation?This isn't a complaint - it'll still enable winds aloft for flight planning purposes - it's just a query! :) I know we're all operating within limited parameters.Thanks again,Tom

Happened most recently last weekend on a flight from Amsterdam to Salzburg.All the way over Germany (so not one reporting station) Activesky would lock up (start consuming 100% CPU time). Killed AS and restart, and it will lock again after a few minutes (so probably while processing the next downloaded weather cycle).Running ActiveSky with visibility reduction turned off, TAF forecasting (dynamic stuff) off, FSFM export on (but no FSFM running at the time).For the rest I think it's all the installation defaults.Windows 2000Pro (latest patchlevel), FSUIPC 2.96 or 2.97 that day (but happened with 2.96 certainly before that).Was flying the PSS A321 at about FL330.Problems don't start until coming in range of German reporting stations (Schiphol, Soesterberg and other Dutch stations work fine) and affect Austrian stations as well it seems (or the weather I got there was from German stations just over the border, can't remember).I'm at work now so not at my FS PC. Will post more data if I find it, will try another flight over Germany tonight (if you want a specific route to hit certain stations please tell me).Hardware P4-1.6, 1024MB RAM, GF2Ti 64MB, about 30GB harddiskspace free over 6 disks.

Hi,I just checked all the countries you listed, in each case there was a valid station within 250nm except Greenland. With this data a fairly accurate simulation of the winds aloft is provided. It uses data from the surface conditions and lat/lon coords as well. When a station is too far to get data, it will kick into winds aloft simulation mode.If you have an information source for text worldwide winds aloft data that has higher resolution, then please share! I can work on that for future development. The current winds about to release has been in development for 3+ months now, with MANY hurdles that had to be overcome to provide it. Any additional changes will take months if not years, so this I am afraid is how it is going to be for v1.6. No errors in the station list!Now, the WMO/GTS communication system is in its early stages. More stations are being added all the time. Full control of the station list file is available by the user so you can add stations as more become available. Because the WMO/GTS system looks like the future, I would imagine most, if not all, stations will be available here eventually.With all that said, the end result of the new winds aloft is much better than before, and now provides fairly accurate winds according to REAL RESOUNDING data (not forecasts - for many stations). This real data is used to plot simulated winds aloft and is not always exactly how the winds will be represented. Remember everyone, forecasts and reports are rarely accurate for the time you will be actually flying through the area! We are trying to capture the essence of a realistic weather environment. You will be able to use real winds aloft charts to plan your flight and they will be fairly accurate to your real winds aloft - but RARELY will they be EXACTLY as you have planned.
