Cannot Access Options Screen!

Hi,I've had ActiveSky WX for a while now. It was working great until I updated to v1.6. I don't know why, but now the program cannot download METARs, TAFs or winds aloft. vis in FS drops immediately to 1/8 mile or so. On top of that I cannot access most of the buttons at the bottom, it says that I have to wait for downloads to complete. It tells my that there is no usable wind data, trying another station and that it will try on next interval, then it says something about the METAR cloud layer conflict skipping transition. It used to work before, now all I get are these problems with the hourglass always showing. Any help is appreciated.Regards,Andy CecchettiKCMH

Andy,Sorry you are having trouble. First, the winds data is a much larger download now and the data sometimes is not correct. The METAR cloud conflict is almost the same thing. The METAR station has reported something in the wrong way. Remember, AS is only as good as the data it receives. We are looking into a new source for the winds data. Keep trying to download, and report back here with any other problems.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jim,Thank you for the quick reply. Still no luck with the data. Is this something that everyone is having problems with today? Why can't I access the options in the program? I have tried being connected to FS and disconnected makes no difference. Thanks again for any suggestions.Andy CecchettiKCMH

Andy,In general today, how has your Internet connection been? I know these forums have been slow, but it is Saturday and things slow down here. I've had to use AS most of the morning and early afternoon and have not received one error download. As you can see no other users have reported any trouble today. Keep trying. Are you behind a firewall? Is anti-virus software running on your system? Keep me updated please!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jim,I tried several things. I turned off the firewall in Windows XP and reconnected to the internet and that didn't work. I have no anti-virus on. I disabled CookieCop a pop up blocker and that didn't work. The only trouble I have had with the internet today was as you mentioned the forums here at AVSIM, everything else was fine. Thanks,Andy CecchettiKCMH

After doing all this are you getting METARs? METAR data and Winds data come from 2 different sources.JimActiveSky Support

Jim,I still get the errors in the METARs saying cloud layer conflict, skipping transition. My winds aloft just time out they cannot get connected to any source and then it says bad data and will try at next interval. Thanks again for trying to help.Regards,Andy CecchettiKCMH

Hi Andy,It appears your internet connection is the issue here. Since nothing appears working, it looks like a firewall issue (hardware or software). You may be running a software firewall that is preventing the wxRE app from communicating via web on http port 80.One way to verify your connection is OK: Go to www.aviationweather.gov. Then go to Standard Brief, METARS. Type in an ICAO code such as KLAX. If you get all these pages to come up ok and can fetch the METAR ok, then the connection is good for the METARS at least. Let's try that first. . let me know how it works. You really might want to try this link with the above directions:http://aviationweather.gov/Dang, that is a hard word to spell!!!I knew there was this site and I looked for it earlier today. Now I have it bookmarked. It has a great deal of information.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Thanks for all your help,I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSky WX. That seemed to have done the trick. I don't know what the problem was but it seems to have corrected itself. Thanks again for the great support on the product.Andy CecchettiKCMH

Glad it's working ok now!!It sounds to me like you had some invalid proxy settings in there. That would explain why a re-install fixed all communications problems (defaults to no proxy address, port 80). Can you confirm? Thanks for the help - I will note this in future support docs!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table
