WxRE 1.6 initial wx initialisation issue at startup

Recommended Posts

Hi DamianI've found some puzzling behaviour when WxRE is started up....FS2002 running, then WxRE started. 1. WxRE detects the nearest wx station correctly. It then displays (for about 1-2 mins): "Downloading additional winds data" "METAR report initializing" and "Winds aloft initializing"2. Eventually, a Winds Aloft string is presented, and WxRE shows "Weather processing complete"BUT... METAR data still shows "initializing" and the TAF field still shows "Please wait for processing to complete before continuing..." This will stay the same (ie stuck!) until either (a) Refresh is pressed, or (:( the next metar update interval is due.HOWEVER, until this update, WxRE sets visibility to nearly ZERO (about 1/8th mile)!Throughout this process WxRE seems to be running OK (ie it detects distance to the nearest wx station).Any thoughts? Thanks, Andy-------------------------No advdispSame issue with FSUIPC 2.972 and 2.975Win XPAthlon 2700+ 512MB Radeon 9700

Hi,Has this cleared up now? There was an a apparent problem with the winds aloft source or the internet today causing some timeouts.Either way though it should NOT set vis to 0, but rather 10 miles if it does not get a valid vis report. Can you send me a screenshot of the status and main screens if this happens again? Also, double check your Proxy settings.. clear these out if you are not using a proxy server. This could be causing comm problems. Hi DamianThanks! I've checked again this morning, and the delay in getting the winds has gone (presumably it was timing out yesterday?), and also the METAR data was populated correctly in a few seconds.I'd liked to have posted the "no vis" screen status I'd been getting - I assume this is linked to how the timeout situation was handled by WxRE. I'll post the screens if I see this one again!RegardsAndy

Andy,Thanks for the screen shots. Have you tried version 1.7 yet? From the screen it looks to me to be some bad data. Try the latest version and see if it works better for you.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky SupportEdit: Ok I now see what you guys were trying to solve. Bad data should default to a vis of 10sm.

Hi DamianIt looks like the winds aloft data server may be down a moment ago, which has allowed me to capture the status screens that I get when this happens with 1.6, and the vis then drops to 1/8th mile.If I've manged to upload the files correctly :-hah, you should have:1. Main Activesky screen2. Status screen (which shows a METAR parse error for date/time)3. FS2002 weatherHope this helps track this one down - and maybe catch it in 1.7?CheersAndy
